About Highland Valley Copper

Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
 
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.

Haulage Truck Operators work a 4x4 rotation, consisting of two days, two nights, followed by four days off. This role is expected to evolve alongside advancements in fleet and operating technology, requiring adaptability and a willingness to grow within the operation. This position is not camp‑based; as such, candidates must reside locally and be able to commute to site independently.

Key Responsibilities

 

Reporting to the Mine Operations Shift Supervisor, Haul Truck Operators are accountable for the following:

 

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Operate haul trucks ranging in size from 180 ton to 240-ton capacity on a 12-hour shift, including night shifts
  • Work and operate outdoors in all weather conditions, including rain, fog, and winter conditions
  • Perform repetitive tasks that could involve heavy lifting
  • Inspect equipment, such as tires, fluids, lights, brakes, to ensure equipment is fully functional and safe for operating
  • Communicate with dispatch, other operators, and supervisors using communication devices such as two-way radio and on-board computers 

Qualifications

 

  • Completion of grade 12 or equivalent 
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work in a high performance, fast-paced team environment
  • Ability to adapt to and work effectively within a constantly changing environment
  • Strong Organization skills
  • Previous heavy equipment operation, industrial experience, or computer literacy is considered beneficial

Hourly Wage: $46.84 / hour

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

  • Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
  • Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
