About Highland Valley Copper
Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.
Role Overview
For this position we are specifically targeting students who have a background in Business, concentrating in Business, Accounting or Finance. This exciting opportunity will allow students to acquire the knowledge and skills required to handle challenges that may arise at a large scale mining operation.
This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience with financial analysis and reporting, learn how large-scale mining operations are supported from a financial perspective, and contribute to improving the efficiency, accuracy, and reliability of financial processes across the site.
Key Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Participate in the health and safety programs of Teck to ensure that everyone on site goes home safe and healthy every day
- Support forecasting and budgeting process to ensure accurate financial planning
- Perform ad hoc cost analysis to support decision-making and identify cost saving opportunities
- Collaborate with the Management Accounting team to execute month-end procedures including accrual processing, balance sheet reconciliations, rolling over critical workbooks, etc.
- Collaborate in a team environment to execute month-end procedures including accrual processing, balance sheet reconciliations, rolling over critical workbooks, etc.
- Conduct PST tax reviews on new purchase orders to ensure compliance with tax regulations
- Provide support to the accounts payable supervisor and ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices
- Compile and submit ESTMA reports in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Assist with pulling internal and external audits to ensure compliance and accuracy with financial records
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a post-secondary degree in Business, preferably in Accounting or Finance
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas and concepts to multidisciplinary teams and external clients and contractors
- Outstanding financial skills; ability to provide overall support to the accounting department
- Solid understanding of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and
- Experience with Dynamics 365, IBM Maximo, or XERAS is an asset
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for the duration of the co-op is required

Pay Range: CAD $4000 - $5100 per month
