About Highland Valley Copper

Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
 
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences. 

 

Role Overview

Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer Supervisor, the Mining Engineer / (EIT) is responsible for working with a group of hardworking professionals to support mine planning across the entire value chain or how we refer to it as “rock to dock”. In this position you will be responsible for short-term production planning and will have the opportunity to work closely with the planning and execution groups across the site.

To be successful we require someone with strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building relationships in a team environment with people of varying backgrounds. Someone who is detail oriented, analytical, organized, positive, motivated, and forward thinking.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Develop safe, optimized, and credible daily mine plans that align with our safety culture, sustainability strategy, environmental and production commitments
  • Complete trade-off analyses to optimize daily planning decisions and reduce risk
  • Communicate plans daily to key collaborators and provide guidance on managing variances to plan
  • Integrate water quality, biodiversity goals, community values and Indigenous perspective supporting sustainable mine planning and industry stewardship
  • Perform economic evaluations, productivity analyses, and assist with capital expenditure documentation
  • Work in wide ranges of mine planning and design, including pit and dump design, conventionally operated and autonomous fleets, production scheduling, and optimization

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering
  • Registered, or eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. (EGBC); Teck will support eligible employees with their EGBC registration
  • Experience in a mining environment; previous experience in open pit, truck and shovel operations is an asset
  • Strong digital literacy in mining related software (knowledge in Vulcan and RPM software is an asset)

 

 

 

Pay Range: CAD $104,975 - $129,675

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.


Working Conditions:

  • Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
  • Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
