Reporting to the Senior Engineer, Electrical in the Site Engineering Department, the Engineer, Electrical is responsible for providing technical engineering support services for the site. This includes managing and maintaining electrical distribution system records and providing engineering analysis and assessments as required to support various initiatives and projects. The individual will also provide delivery of small electrical projects, as needed, and support other project engineers with project delivery.
This role includes significant interaction with various stakeholders across the mine site, as well as external partners. Further, this role is responsible for occasionally supervising a unionized workforce and on-site contractors during the construction phase of the projects.
To be successful, we are looking for someone with strong technical skills in Electrical Engineering, including familiarity with design and systems analysis using E-Tap, in addition to excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, organization and problem-solving abilities. The ideal candidate would be a team-oriented individual with a strong focus on safety, personal responsibility, and who is highly self-motivated. The ability to maintain a positive and flexible attitude while working independently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment is vital in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
- Manage all electrical infrastructure and ensure code compliance across HVC.
- Critical technical activities including:
- Electrical distribution model development and management
- Load-flow analysis for infrastructure additions
- Arc flash analysis
- Updating and managing the ESP (Electrical Safety Plan)
- Manage single line prints including reviewing, updating and stamping annually
- Collaborating with BC Hydro and the Senior Energy Coordinator to monitor and control the site consumption of electricity
- Plan and execute electrical projects, as required.
- Manage break-in or support requests for technical engineering assessments and direction / instruction to ensure daily operations can sustain.
- Provide input to annual business plans based on short and long-term asset plans, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and targets for operational performance.
- Aid in planning, organizing, securing, and managing of resources.
- Establish project objectives, performance measures, and develop corrective plans to ensure project sustainability.
- Control project costs and schedule and provide accurate reporting throughout all project phases.
- Participate in hazard risk assessments, safety meetings, and positively contribute to the health & safety culture at HVC.
- Coordinate with stakeholders within management and operational teams, and ensure that key information is communicated effectively.
- Improve project delivery continually by applying relevant lessons learned and maintaining detailed records.
- Look for and drive continuous improvement ideas including areas focused on technology and innovation.
- Coordinating with Asset Integrity to complete condition assessment of aging infrastructure and preparation for short-long term replacement and upgrade plans.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC).
- 3-5 years of technical experience in Electrical Engineering design and systems analysis.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD & E-Tap.
- Operational experience with mining/heavy industrial work would be considered an asset.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.

Salary Range: CAD $105,000 - $130,000 per year
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
