Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
 
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.

Reporting to the Disability Management Supervisor, Human Resources, the Disability Management Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and managing the processes related to employee disability cases within the organization. You will be responsible for supporting employees through illness, injury or disability with timely compassionate case management. This role involves a range of tasks aimed at ensuring that employees receive the appropriate support and benefits in a timely and efficient manner.

 

To be successful, we are looking for someone with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, who is experienced, motivated self-starter, a quick learner, strong problem solver, and can expertly handle confidential material. The successful person would be highly organized, have strong attention to detail, and can prioritize contending demands in a fast-paced environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Strong case management skills combining objectivity, compassion, stakeholder collaboration, agility, and a team-first mindset, to positively impact organization health and operational performance
  • Process and manage employee cases for WorkSafe BC, short-term disability (wage indemnity), long-term disability, accommodation, earnings requests, modified work Offers and other related benefits in a timely manner
  • Experience in handling sensitive cases that may involve mental health, psychological safety, or critical incidence using a trauma-informed approach.
  • Coordinate and oversee stay-at-work and progressive return-to-work programs in accordance with Collective Agreement and Company policy, assessing employee progress.
  • Monitor the progress of employees on disability leave and adjust plans as needed to support their recovery and return to work. Ensuring all relevant stakeholders are updated.
  • Use data to identify areas for improvement in cases and disability management processes.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Degree or Diploma in Human Resources, Business, Disability Management, Occupation Health and Rehabilitation or a related field, or a relevant combination of schooling and experience
  • 3 years of experience in disability management, return to work coordination, case management, and medical accommodation, preferably within large, unionized organizations with a diverse workforce
  • Solid understanding of applicable employment, human rights and benefit laws and legislation
  • Strong digital literacy, especially in the Microsoft Office Suite®
  • Proficiency in using case management software and other relevant technology.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations and develop effective solutions.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in documenting and processing case related documents
  • Commitment to maintaining the confidentiality of employee information.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP), Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC), or other relevant designations are considered an asset

Pay Range: CAD $83,000 - $103,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.


Working Conditions:

  • Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
  • Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
