About Highland Valley Copper

Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
 
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.

Reporting to the Purchasing Supervisor General Supervisor, Supply Chain Management, the Customs Coordinator is responsible for ensuring compliance and support for all import and export-related activities for goods by all methods of transport for which Teck Highland Valley Copper Partnership (THVCP) is responsible. The successful candidate will be required to exercise independent judgement and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities

  

  •  Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Manage THVCP’s customs compliance program
  • Monitor customs regulatory changes and implement required procedural and process changes to ensure ongoing compliance with regulations
  • Manage international purchases for products and services
  • Act as the main THVCP contact on import and exports for which THVCP is responsible. Manage relationships with Teck Corporate Customs and Trade Compliance group, Vancouver Transportation, the Canadian Border Services Agency, the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, and other related government agencies
  • Act as a THVCP local expert regarding customs regulations as it pertains to Purchasing and Projects groups’ acquisition of products and services
  • Have and use knowledge of the regulations to ensure that imports and exports of goods through any method of transport are conducted correctly. Consult with third parties where additional assistance is required
  • Knowledge of import/export permit requirements
  • Manage relationship with customs brokers, transportation providers, and other stakeholders to ensure efficient import and export of goods
  • Act as the primary administrator for Avetta, contractor risk management platform, overseeing contractor and supplier compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Provide leadership by participating in internal or external customs audits
  • Integrate change management practices into THVCP customs compliance program
  • Knowledge sharing through training and mentorship

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years of experience in a Supply Chain Management roles
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have a current Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation and have experience working with Canada Customs Act compliance and audits
  • Post-Secondary diploma/degree in a related field such as: Office Administration, Accounting, Business, Marketing, or Supply Chain Management
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, proven interpersonal skills, and follow-up skills are required
  • Possess good organizational, analytical, quantitative, and qualitative skills with emphasis in data presentation using tables, spreadsheets, or charts
  • Self-motivated and capable of working under minimal supervision. 
  • The ability to function best in high performance work environments with the ability to meet tight deadlines with accuracy
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment
  • Word Processing 40 WPM and certification MS Word, MS Excel and Database
  • Previous use of ERP software such as JD Edwards will be an asset

 

Pay Range: CAD $83,000 - $103,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.


Working Conditions:

  • Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
  • Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
