Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.

The Project Controls Coordinator at Highland Valley Copper (HVC) provides site-based coordination support for major mobile equipment purchases and the D-model haul truck rebuild program. Accountable for cost, schedule, risk, and performance tracking, this role supports successful project execution by bringing structure, alignment, and visibility across complex equipment programs.

 

Reporting to the Asset Management Senior Project Engineer Supervisor, the role works closely with Asset Management, Maintenance, Supply Chain, Finance, and external vendors to support planning, forecasting, change management, and reporting throughout the project lifecycle. The position plays a key role in coordinating stakeholders, tracking project progress, and communicating risks, constraints, and priorities to support informed decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

 

Project Coordination & Execution

  • Coordinate planning and execution activities across mobile equipment procurement and rebuild programs.
  • Act as a central point of coordination between Project Leads, Maintenance, Procurement, Supply Chain, and vendors.
  • Track project progress, milestones, and deliverables to ensure alignment with schedules and operational priorities.
  • Identify and communicate risks, constraints, and dependencies, supporting mitigation and resolution planning.
  • Support alignment between project scope, timelines, and site operational requirements.
  • Maintain project documentation, schedules, action logs, and tracking tools to ensure visibility and accountability.
  • Facilitate cross-functional communication to ensure consistent understanding of project status and priorities.

Project Controls Support

  • Support the development and maintenance of project forecasts and cost tracking as inputs to project planning and decision-making.
  • Monitor project commitments and expenditures to provide visibility into overall project status.
  • Identify variances and trends, providing context to Project Leads to support proactive execution decisions.
  • Assist with change management processes to ensure scope, schedule, and cost impacts are coordinated and understood.
  • Support month-end accrual inputs by validating progress with project stakeholders as part of project tracking activities.

Governance, Reporting & Communication

  • Prepare and maintain project status reports, including progress updates, risks, and key issues.
  • Chair bi-weekly equipment coordination meetings focused on project progress, risks, and execution alignment.
  • Document meeting outcomes, track action items, and ensure follow-through on commitments.
  • Provide clear and timely communication of project status, trade-offs, and constraints to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Project Controls and Finance to ensure alignment of project information, without owning financial accounting processes.

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in a related field (Commerce, Finance, Project Management, Business Administration, or related discipline).
  • Minimum four years of experience in cost/budget administration, project controls, project management, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a large industrial environment such as mining, oil and gas, or manufacturing is an asset.
  • Experience with mobile mining equipment is an asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies and best practices is an asset.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and accountability.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and collaborative team player.

Pay Range: CAD $95,000 - $118,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.


Working Conditions:

  • Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
  • Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
