This position, reporting to the Senior Coordinator, Environment, is responsible for coordinating and ensuring compliance with water quality programs, performing QA/QC on water quality data, data management systems, maintaining data management workflows, handling internal and external data requests, water quality data analysis, reporting and operational support, ML/ARD management program implementation, and supporting closure water planning.

 

The role requires an Environmental specialist with strong data management skills and understanding of inorganic chemistry and geochemistry. Water quality is central to demonstrating regulatory compliance, so data evaluation and reporting writing skills are essential. Experience with interpreting water quality and geochemistry data. Strong interpersonal skills are necessary to engage with colleagues, other HVC departments, regulators and COI's
 

Responsibilities:

 

 

  • Be a courageous safety leader; lead by example and foster a proactive safety and sustainability culture based on Teck’s values of health, safety, environment, and indigenous and community engagement.
  • Water and geochemical monitoring program tracking
  • Support water and geochemical monitoring program scheduling
  • Coordinate water quality and ML/ARD reporting
  • ML/ARD program implementation, interpretation and operational support
  • Water quality mitigation support 
  • Water quality data QA/QC
  • Water quality analysis & interpretation
  • Data management
  • Support data workflow (from field to database)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 

 

  • Degree in Environmental Studies, Engineering, Earth Sciences (Biology, Geography, Geology, Forestry, Agriculture), Chemistry or Natural Resource field
  • Minimum three years of experience in the field of environmental compliance or monitoring, in an industrial environment
  • Specific experience in water quality and geochemistry monitoring program design and execution, assessment and data interpretation are considered an asset. 
  • Working understanding of relevant federal and provincial environmental legislation, standards, and effective industry practices.
  • Experience with environmental data management software (GIS/EQuIS) is considered an asset and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite®
  • Experience in interpreting and applying relevant environmental and waste legislation, standards, and effective industry practices
  • Experience in developing and maintaining relationships and partnerships with stakeholders (including Indigenous Governments and Organizations, industry partners, and/or federal, provincial or local governments)
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities with a proven capacity for practical problem solving.  Mechanical aptitude is considered an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license, with the ability to safely operate different equipment
  • Ability to work efficiently with nominal supervision and work independently in outdoor remote locations

Salary Range: $91,000 - $113,000

 

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
