About Highland Valley Copper

Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
 
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences. 

Role Overview

 

Reporting to the Purchasing General Supervisor, the Buyer is responsible for assisting the SCM Department in the efficient and cost-effective acquisition of goods and services. This role supports all purchasing activities, from creating purchase orders to maintaining vendor relationships and ensuring timely delivery of materials and services. The role also focuses on securing the best overall value in the planning and procurement of services and materials, ensuring the ongoing needs of user departments are met, and providing support to the THVCP Supply Chain Management Team.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Be a Courageous Safety Leader through promotion and adherence to established Safety and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Create, manage, and track purchase orders (POs) accurately and timely using Teck's ERP system
  • Monitor and maintain optimal inventory levels to prevent shortages or excess stock, coordinating with warehouse and production teams.
  • Assist in evaluating bids, analyzing quotes, and preparing costing sheets for various materials and services.
  • Administer the contracting life cycle through commonly practiced and approved industry methods for large-scale/complex projects.
  • Serve as a liaison between Supply Chain, other business functions, and suppliers to ensure team and suppliers are effectively supporting projects.
  • Review invoices for accuracy and work with the Accounts Payable department to resolve discrepancies.
  • Ensure all purchases comply with company policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines.
  • Lead market and economic analysis to propose strategic sourcing opportunities and Supply Management optimization.
  • Identify, lead, and actively participate in business improvement initiatives to support HVC Communities of Interest.
  • Build and maintain positive, long-term relationships with new and existing suppliers.
  • Support training of end users on internal and corporate policies; maintain confidentiality and work at the highest level of professionalism.

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive purchasing experience preferred
  • Completion or enrolment in the Supply Chain Management Professional designation.
  • Post-Secondary diploma/degree in a related field such as Office Administration, Accounting, Business, Marketing, Supply Chain Management, or equivalent experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Experience in the Supply Chain Management field with a good understanding of contract structures, terms, and conditions.
  • Ability to handle large volumes of work and multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Experience in asset recovery (inventory and equipment).
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage numerous tasks simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working under minimal supervision.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Maximo, etc.)

 

Pay Range: CAD $95,000 - $118,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.


Working Conditions:

  • Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
  • Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
