About Highland Valley Copper

Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
 
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.

Reporting to the HR Superintendent, the Advisor, Leadership Development will be responsible for implementing, and managing leadership and development programs at HVC. This role will focus on developing the skills and capabilities of site personnel, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and leadership excellence. The advisor will work closely with site management, HR teams, and corporate leadership to identify development needs and deliver tailored solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Implement, and manage leadership development programs for HVC.
  • Ensure alignment with corporate leadership standards and values.
  • Ensure all leadership and development activities comply with corporate policies, industry regulations, and site-specific safety standards.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement by regularly assessing the effectiveness of leadership and development programs. Collect feedback, analyze results, and make recommendations for enhancements.
  • Identify gaps in training and facilitate Supervisor training sessions
  • Create and maintain pro-active, effective, and positive relationships with site leaders and employees to provide advice, guidance, and counsel on development matters
  • Oversee leadership development, support Teck’s values, and support inclusion and diversity
  • Track and report on the progress of leadership and development initiatives, including participation rates, feedback, and impact on site performance. Provide regular updates to site and corporate leadership.
  • Facilitate and lead workshops, and discussions to identify priority objectives

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development, or equivalent
  • A minimum of five to seven years of Human Resources or Leadership experience with a focus on employee development
  • Strong knowledge of leadership development theories and best practices.
  • Excellent facilitation, presentation, and coaching skills.
  • Experience in change management, workflow planning for self, others, and groups
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels.
  • Proficient in using learning management systems (LMS) and other HR technologies.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess program effectiveness and recommend improvements.
  • Ability to operate with a very high level of integrity and confidentiality
  • Ability to work with and influence a wide array of ages and site tenures

Pay Range: CAD $93,000 - $115,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.


Working Conditions:

  • Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
  • Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
