Job Summary

 

This role is focused on leading community engagement and advancing Teck’s social performance strategy at multiple Legacy Properties in post-closure. The Social Performance Specialist will help build strong partnerships with Indigenous Nations and communities through meaningful engagement and community participation. The role ensures that the Legacy Properties portfolio adheres to Teck’s Social Performance Standards and aligns with community interests.

 

We are seeking an experienced Social Performance Specialist who thrives in frontline, community-facing work. The successful candidate will be committed to ensuring that site activities are guided by local and traditional knowledge, community values, and respect of rights holders. This role is centered on building long-term relationships and fostering economic opportunities through inclusive and transparent engagement.

 

To be successful, we require a social performance practitioner with superior interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, and demonstrated success in community engagement. The expected activities include but are not limited to participating in social risk and site impact assessments; planning, coordinating and participating in community engagement activities; maintaining accurate records of engagement; providing support in the investigation and resolution of community grievances and concerns; and supporting the implementation of Teck’s Social Performance Standards.

 

This Social Performance Specialis is a 12 month contrat role.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous Nations and local communities, aligned with Teck’s values and external interests and expectations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build internal capacity by integrating social performance into site-level operations to foster a shared understanding of community expectations and culturally informed practices.
  • Coordinate and document external meetings, including scheduling, minute-taking, and tracking follow-up actions.
  • Develop and implement site-specific social performance plans that guide engagement activities across multiple Legacy Properties. These plans are to be rooted in a strategic framework that aligns with business priorities and is responsive to the interests, values, and aspirations of Indigenous Nations and local communities.
  • Maintain and manage social performance data, including engagement records and community feedback channels.
  • Support implementation and continuous improvement of Teck’s social management systems (e.g., feedback line, engagement tracking, reporting tools).

 

Qualifications

 

  • Post-secondary education in community relations, social sciences, sustainability, or a related field.
  • Minimum five years of experience in community engagement, development, or investment (preferred).
  • Experience working with Indigenous Nations and local communities (strong asset).
  • Familiarity with the mining or natural resource sector (asset).
  • Excellent communication skills, including public speaking and active listening.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Skilled in meeting facilitation and event coordination.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Self-motivated, accountable, and able to work independently.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time.
  • Proficiency in French is an asset.
