Senior Financial Analyst


Elkford, BC, CA

Reporting to the Site Controller, the Senior Financial Analyst (Known at Teck as Senior Cost Analyst) is responsible for performing financial analysis to support operational decision making, optimizing the use of the financial systems at the site, coordinating transaction processing and financial reporting activities with the Shared Service groups.


The individual will collaborate with colleagues across the various parts of the organization. The position will plan, prioritize, and manage workload in an environment of competing priorities where risk must be assessed to support timely, sound business decisions. The role provides opportunity to provide leadership, manage projects, and think strategically.



  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Support the site controller in providing the site leadership team with key financial information for decision making
  • Provide financial data and perform cost analyses to identify opportunities, efficiencies and waste which may include trend and variance analysis
  • Explain and coach department heads on their financial performance versus plan
  • Coordinate month-end activities that occur on-site
  • Review and validate financial reports prepared by the Finance Shared Service group
  • Assist the Site Controller with the preparation of budgets and forecasts for the operation
  • Assist in the development of the departments Standard Policies and Procedures
  • Respond to ad hoc financial queries
  • Investigate variances in actual results versus plan
  • Assist with supervision of the hourly payroll process
  • Perform other duties as assigned



  • Accounting designation (CGA/CMA/CA), or working towards
  • Minimum five years’ experience in accounting or finance, preferably within a mining or manufacturing environment
  • Financial accounting experience (IFRS, GAAP) knowledge or experience is an asset
  • Analysis and reporting experience
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly in the Microsoft Office Suite®: Outlook, Word, and Excel.  ERP systems experience, especially Microsoft AX, is an asset
  • Ability to prioritize, work under pressure with minimal guidance, and meet tight deadlines
  • Must be highly motivated and possess strong interpersonal skills
  • Detail oriented, strong organizational, navigational, and time management skills, inquisitive nature, and the ability to break down complex processes into simpler tasks and execute accordingly
  • Must possess the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities and still maintain effective working relationships with other employees, key stakeholders, and other internal customers
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision making abilities
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
