Reporting to the Lead, RACE21 Greenhills Operations, the Process Control Engineer is responsible for leading process control improvements that drive value. Working closely with the plant electrical department and the Information Systems and Technology group guide strategy regarding cutting edge processing systems and technologies. Technologies include process automation, remote operations, thin client human machine interfaces (HMI), optimization systems, machine learning, and operator safety systems.

 

This position offers a compressed workweek with alternating Fridays off, a competitive pay and benefits package, and relocation assistance options.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Work with a highly technical team with a focus on delivering value and promoting sharing of new methodologies across operations
  • Engage people at all levels of the organization, and across all operations and corporate offices
  • Support and build innovation initiatives such as Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Internet of Things, and Augmented/Virtual Reality
  • Provide design and implementation support to major projects including green field projects
  • Draft capital Appropriation Requests and Project Charters
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to resolve sophisticated technical problems
  • Define, implement, support, and continuously improve groundbreaking systems that optimize safety, sustainability, and efficiency
  • Monitor for system problems and provide emergency support
  • Drive and manage change with the opportunity to own the outcome

 

Qualifications:

  • Engineering Degree in Processing, Electrical, computer, or other related field, with an Automation focus
  • Minimum of five years’ dynamic experience maintaining, solving, and crafting regulatory and advance process control strategies in an industrial or manufacturing setting
  • Must be eligible for Professional Engineer membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC)
  • Automation experience would be preferred
  • Experience in solids basic control such as actuators, sensors, control strategy, and loop tuning
  • Experience with instrumentation, PLC/DCS, HMI, historian, and communications
  • Knowledge of Advance Process Control (e.g. MPC); simulation (e.g. Matlab, loop tuning software)
  • Experience with process control systems required, Rockwell, Wonderware, or Yokogawa experience and training are preferred
  • Testing and commissioning work experience
  • Experience mentoring co-workers would be an asset
  • Detailed, but also able to think strategically
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work independently or with a team
  • Strong ability to build and leverage relationships from the front line through to management.
  • Proven ability to communicate and implement change
