Mining Engineer-in-Training, Long-Range Planning

Reporting to the Senior Engineering Supervisor of Long-Range Planning, The Mining Engineer-in-Training (EIT), Long Range Planning is responsible for developing long range plans to sustain and extend the Life of Mine at Fording River Operations. The main focus of this role is to optimize currently permitted reserves and conduct pit evaluations on new mining areas to extend or increase Fording River's current reserve. It will involve executing and optimizing all aspects of the long-range plan, including pit shell optimizations, pit and spoil design work, scheduling mine plans, economic evaluations, and Life of Mine report development. This role is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to make a significant impact on the business.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Execute on a wide range of mine planning and design, including pit and spoil design, production scheduling, and optimization
  • Influence strong site decision making through detailed data analysis and sound mining practices
  • Perform economic evaluations, productivity analyses, and peer reviews
  • Identify and communicate beneficial opportunities to continually improve efficiencies
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies
  • Communicate mine development projects to the permitting groups within the business unit. Assist in developing mine permit applications and amendments
  • Ensure mine plans are following permit compliance
  • Participate in the development of annual reserves and resource reporting

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Mining Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum one year of experience in mine planning
  • Proficiency in mine scheduling software such as XPAC, and mine design software such as Minesight 3D
  • Solid understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite®
