Lead Environment, Water Compliance

Reporting to the Senior Coordinator, Environment, the Lead Environment, Water Compliance is responsible for executing programs vital to ensuring compliance and continual improvement related to surface and ground water at our Fording River Operation, as well as to support the implementation of the Elk Valley Water Quality Plan at an operational level.

 

To be successful, we are looking for someone with strong interpersonal and communication skills, who can prioritize contending responsibilities and see projects through to completion. Leadership skills will be vital as you will be providing technical direction, mentorship, and field support for emerging water challenges.

 

In this role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with departments within the mine site and with other water groups across the valley. You will get to share new innovations and improvements with other sites improving our water compliance program.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Lead and support the operational water compliance team and manage related programs
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with internal teams and external agencies
  • Understand applicable commitments, permits, acts, regulations, and associated requirements so appropriate information is considered to inform management decisions and activities
  • Prepare and submit all vital data and reports to meet regulatory commitments
  • Communicate data in a clear and understandable format suitable for intended audiences to advise mine operations, permitting, and water management to gain resolution of any issues or challenges

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in Engineering or Science in an environmental related field
  • Registered, or eligible to register, with professional designation and meet the B.C. provincial requirements of a qualified professional for applicable monitoring and assessment programs
  • Minimum five years demonstrated ability providing team leadership and technical direction on operational water related risks and challenges associated with resource management
  • Technical knowledge of federal and provincial compliance practices and regulations related to water quality and quantity, and resource development
  • Technical understanding of water chemistry and experience with risk evaluation related to water quality, quantity, and receptors (aquatic and human health)
  • Excellent project management experience with a track record that includes management and technical direction of multiple environmental projects and budgets
  • Proficient in environmental data management, analysis, and reporting, and working with environmental databases
