Health and Safety Coordinator (Temporary)

Reporting to the Health and Safety Supervisor, the Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for providing health and safety support to all employees and contractors working on the Fording River Expansion (FRX) exploration site. This opening is for an approximate 6-month contract.


To be successful in this role we are looking for someone self-motivated, who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can focus on priorities, set objectives, and measure performance. Someone who will find opportunities for improvement and will gain trust and compliance in those initiatives. To achieve this you must have well-honed interpersonal and communication skills, be able to gauge your audience, and convey a message effectively.


In this role you will have the opportunity to work in the field at an expansive mine, collaborating with all levels of the operation, and work with them to achieve crucial strategic objectives. With our safety team you will work together to develop and grow a program that is critical to the success of our operation.

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Coordinate with departments to implement and maintain the health and safety program
  • Provide support to the site department leads to advance worker and contractor health and safety at the site
  • Facilitate risk assessments, effectiveness reviews, and gap assessments
  • Conduct in field audits and Critical Control Verification Assessments
  • Complete site inspections, hazard assessments, reporting, safety meetings, program development, incident investigation, and follow-up
  • Participate in internal and external health and safety audits
  • Conduct health and safety orientations with newly hired employees and contractors
  • Oversee and support a team of contract first aid attendants, stationed on an exploration site
  • Assist Contract Managers and Supervisors in preparing detailed Environmental Health and Safety Community work plans (EHSC) and Environmental Protection Work Plans (EPWP) prior to contractor work



  • Diploma or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent subject area
  • Minimum three years demonstrated ability in a Health and Safety role, in an industrial environment
  • Strong digital literacy in the Microsoft Office Suite® and an ability to learn new programs
  • Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent
