Environmental Technician

Reporting to the Environment Coordinator, Development, the Environmental Technician is responsible for working with operations and project teams to assess and support ongoing management and compliance with regional and local permits associated with Fording River Operations.

This person would have strong analytical and decision-making abilities, and a high capacity to find solutions. The successful candidate would have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, who can engage with a wide range of internal personnel and remain positive and motivated in outdoor, remote locations. Environmental project management experience would be vital for success in this role.

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Execute and provide technical direction for multiple, broad based sampling and monitoring programs
  • Conduct inspections and effectiveness checks to support process and regulatory compliance
  • Coordinate and supervise contractors to ensure work is being conducted safely and in accordance with authorizations and project scope
  • Understand applicable permits and associated requirements to support ongoing compliance
  • Develop and implement effective processes that support efficient and compliant implementation of projects and integration with operations
  • Develop and review Environmental Protection Work Plans
  • Analyze field and analytical data to draft technical reports and communications
  • Collaborate closely with site departments and project teams to facilitate environmental education and compliance assurance



  • Diploma or Degree in Environmental Studies, Earth Sciences (Biology, Geography, Geology, Forestry, Agriculture), or related Natural Resource field
  • Minimum two years of experience in the field of environmental compliance or monitoring, in an industrial environment
  • Experience with environmental data management software (GIS/EQuIS) and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite®
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental and waste legislation, standards, and effective industry practices
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license, with the ability to safely operate different equipment
