Environmental Technician

Reporting to the Coordinator, Environment, the Environmental Technician is responsible for working on projects to assess and support the ongoing management and compliance of regional and local permits associated with our coal mining operations.

 

We are looking for someone with the ability to stay organized and thrive in a fast paced, team environment with strong technical skills and an ability to thrive in the field regardless of weather conditions.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Conduct sampling and monitoring programs to confirm compliance and environmental conditions
  • Perform chemical, physical, and biological tests and document results with detailed field notes
  • Participate in and lead field audits and inspections
  • Coordinate contractors to ensure work is being conducted safely and in accordance with project scope
  • Understand applicable permits and associated requirements
  • Participate in and supervise various environmental projects and field sampling programs
  • Develop and review Environmental Protection Work Plans
  • Analyze field and analytical data to draft technical reports and communications

 

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Degree in Environmental Studies, Earth Sciences (Biology, Geography, Geology, Forestry, Agriculture), or related combination of experience and education
  • Minimum two years of experience with environmental compliance or monitoring
  • Experience with environmental data management and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite®
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental legislation, standards, and effective industry practices
  • Valid Class 5 drivers license, with the ability to safely operate different equipment
  • Ability to work efficiently with nominal supervision and work independently in outdoor remote locations
