Reporting to the IS Facilities Team Lead, Teck Digital Systems, the Facilities Technician plays a meaningful role in supporting and improving the operational excellence of our data centers, which serve as the backbone of all enterprise data. This position is responsible for implementing innovative standards, ensuring maximum uptime, and collaborating closely with operations and interdisciplinary teams. The Technician will drive monitoring solutions, perform sophisticated problem solving, and contribute to design standards for the future development of data centers and Intermediate Distribution Frames (IDFs). We are seeking an agile, hands-on individual who is eager to take on challenges, implement solutions, and provide visionary technical leadership to solve complex problems.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Collaborate closely with business stakeholders to design, develop, and maintain data center systems
  • Build, implement, and coordinate maintenance plan schedules to ensure operational reliability
  • Provide rotational after-hours facility support to sustain enterprise-wide operations
  • Coordinate and supervise vendor access for on-site service calls and maintenance activities
  • Advise project teams on data center design and deployment strategies to meet organizational goals
  • Enhance new and existing solutions to improve availability, scalability, security, and cost-effectiveness
  • Promote the adoption of validated solution templates across the organization
  • Challenge conventional approaches and seek innovative, efficient ways to address technical challenges

 

Qualifications:

 

  • 5+ years experience in Data Centers

  • Commercial experience as a Level 1 or Level 2 Telecommunication Technician, with a focus on data center operations support and design

  • Basic understanding of data center technologies, including electrical systems, cooling solutions, space planning, and move requests

  • Hands-on experience installing networking hardware, and cabling for new systems

  • Proven success in prioritizing and overseeing technical tasks in a project backlog

  • Passion for exploring and implementing new solutions beyond standard protocols

  • Experience leading technical discussions and engagements with stakeholders or customers

  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a track record of resolving issues in sophisticated data center environments

  • Outstanding attention to detail, coupled with advanced analytical and problem solving abilities

  • Outstanding ability to communicate effectively within distributed teams and across departments at every organizational level
