About our Anchorage Office

Teck's Anchorage office is home to an administrative team supporting our Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest zinc mines, which is operated under an innovative agreement between Teck and landowner NANA, a Regional Alaska Native corporation owned by the Iñupiat of northwest Alaska.

 

Role Overview

Reporting to the Logistics & Procurement Coordinator, the Buyer is responsible for the purchase of materials and services with a goal towards achieving the lowest Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for the company.


*This position is located in the Anchorage Teck office with a Monday – Friday work schedule*

Key Responsibilities

•    Develop and maintain a strong understanding of Red Dog Operations, including the commodities, equipment, and services required to support site activities
•    Coordinate with operations and internal customers to determine material and service requirements, specifications, and priorities
•    Evaluate, source, and procure materials, supplies, and services in the most efficient manner while meeting changing operational demands
•    Achieve lowest Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) through effective preparation of solicitations, negotiations, and ongoing supplier performance management
•    Solicit, negotiate, and implement supply agreements for key commodity groups to ensure continuity of supply, competitive pricing, and service levels, while promoting local business where possible
•    Utilize enterprise ERP systems (SAP preferred) to execute procurement transactions, including purchase requisitions, purchase orders, goods receipts, invoice verification, and order tracking
•    Monitor order status and actively expedite materials to meet operational priorities; investigate and resolve shipment discrepancies as required
•    Coordinate closely with Logistics, Warehousing, freight forwarders, and customs brokers to ensure accurate, timely delivery of materials to site
•    Support import, freight, and customs related procurement activities by ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with applicable trade regulations
•    Ensure all purchasing activities comply with Teck Alaska policies, standard purchasing practices, and trade compliance requirements
•    Maintain accurate procurement data and documentation within ERP systems to support reporting, audits, and continuous improvement
•    Maintain a professional demeanor when dealing with suppliers, internal customers, and stakeholders
•    Provide training and guidance to other personnel in materials management practices as required
•    Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

•    Associates Degree in related field required. Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or other related field preferred
•    Five (5) to seven (7) years previous procurement experience in an industrial setting 
•    Proficient with Microsoft Office suite and various computer applications
•    Experience with SAP procurement and materials management modules preferred; experience with other large-scale ERP systems required
•    Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) certification preferred
