Role Overview

 

Reporting to the Lead, Procurement, the Buyer will manage the execution of purchase orders, the contracting and onboarding/offboarding process for time and material contingent workers, the international shipping process on behalf of Teck, and the management of RFXs. The incumbent will work in conjunction with various Buyers, Supply Management resources, and other teams distributed across Teck sites while educating resources distributed across several sites on Teck purchasing practices and policies. 

 

Buyers may also be required to fully manage the import/export of hardware to/from various sites across Teck, including populating/review shipping documents, liaising with customs brokers, carries, 3PLs, and Vendors.

 

The incumbent manages the daily activities of the Teck purchasing and account allocations across all sites.  The role demands close working relationships with vendors, project managers, and managers in the Teck group.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Be a courageous safety leader by adhering to and sponsoring safety and environmental rules and procedures.

•    Responsible for reviewing purchase requisitions for accuracy, completion, and price competitiveness.
•    Responsible for converting purchasing requisitions to purchase orders using various Teck ERP systems and delivering purchase orders to Teck vendors in a timely manner.
•    Obtaining 3 competitive quotes for purchase requisitions over $50,000
•    Provide excellent customer service by responding to emails and messages in a timely manner to internal stakeholders regarding purchasing activities, tasks, including updates, as well as educate them.
•    Responsible for contracting, onboarding/offboarding contingent workers and consultants.
•    Responsible for coordinating the intercompany shipments of hardware between sites 
•    Working with and maintaining constructive relationships with all stakeholders in the purchasing process.
•    Ensuring ethical purchasing procedures are maintained.
•    Evaluating our vendors and coordinating purchasing activity within the enterprise.
•    Liaise with Finance, Accounting, and other departments at Teck to assist with payment-related matters.

 

Qualifications

 

•    Experience and Education: University degree in finance, management, or business, and 5 years’ experience minimum. SAP MM and Ariba knowledge is an asset.

•    Management: Demonstrate an ability to manage in a matrix-oriented organization across multiple time zones and multiple business units to deliver value and customer satisfaction to all clients
•    Information Technology: Established record as a procurement officer. Understanding the business practices of Teck vendors and the vendor landscape. Is acquainted with project managers in distributed teams and understands the technical requirements
•    Problem Solving: Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills are needed to solve a broad range of complex problems related to information services procurement.  A thorough understanding of shipping terms (Incoterms 2020) to deal with international shipments.
•    Communication Skills: The incumbent requires strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with project managers and Managers throughout Teck. Incumbent must effectively work with employees, consultants, and contractors in all departments of the organization for the procurement of goods and services.
•    Time and Priority Management: Essential to manage time demands and prioritize work when supporting the purchasing, contracting and shipping functions
