Business Analyst, Supply Management

Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada
Employment Type: Regular Full Time
Workplace Type: On-site

About our Vancouver Office

Located in the heart of downtown Vancouver, between the Pacific Ocean and the Coast Mountains, Teck’s Corporate Office sits in one of Canada’s most culturally diverse cities.

Surrounded by world-renowned nature and globally inspired cuisine, the office brings together many of Teck’s corporate functions - all working toward Teck’s purpose of providing the essential resources the world relies on.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Director, Strategic Sourcing, the Business Analyst is responsible for delivering high‑quality analytical support across strategic sourcing categories while also contributing to broader commercial and business opportunity assessments. The role combines core supply chain analytics – including spend analysis, cost modelling, market intelligence, and support for developing sourcing strategies – with light commercial and financial analysis to evaluate potential value creation opportunities.

The Analyst works closely with Category Managers to evaluate internal demand, external supply markets, should‑cost dynamics, and vendor capabilities, and provides structured insights that help advise on negotiations, contracting approaches, and strategic sourcing initiatives. In addition, the Analyst contributes to early‑stage business case development for select commercial opportunities, applying fundamental financial modelling and structured problem‑solving to assess feasibility, risks, and value propositions.

This role is a key contributor in advancing Teck’s supply chain excellence and supports the broader transformation efforts to standardize data, improve analytical processes, and strengthen decision‑making within the Supply Chain Management (SCM) function.

The Analyst provides guidance that directly supports major sourcing decisions, commercial assessments, and process improvement activities. Internal contacts include Category Managers, SCM leadership, site supply teams, and cross‑functional partners involved in commercial assessments. External contacts include suppliers, industry data providers, and subject matter experts.

This role can be based in Vancouver, BC or in Toronto, ON.

Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Conduct regular analysis of strategic supply categories – including spend, demand, market conditions, and supplier cost structures – to support sourcing strategies and negotiation preparation
  • Develop and maintain should‑cost models and basic financial models to evaluate sourcing options, commercial opportunities, and potential cost‑reduction initiatives
  • Support Category Managers by preparing data‑driven insights, demand forecasts, market summaries, and scenario analyses to inform decision‑making
  • Analyze supply markets to understand capacity, competition, pricing trends, and emerging risks and opportunities
  • Assist in developing value propositions and early‑stage business cases for new sourcing or commercial opportunities, integrating cost, value, risk, and implementation considerations
  • Conduct internal demand and utilization reviews for key categories and support updates to category plans
  • Review and validate spend data, working with functional partners to improve data quality and standardization across systems
  • Track and report value, benefits, and performance indicators related to sourcing initiatives and supplier performance
  • Support strategic sourcing processes, including gathering requirements, analyzing alternatives, and preparing structured insights for category strategies
  • Participate in cross‑functional analyses involving commercial, operational, and financial inputs to assess the viability of potential opportunities (e.g., logistics, should‑cost, supply‑market driven opportunities)
  • Perform additional duties or analytical work as the need arises by the Director, Strategic Sourcing

Qualifications

  • Post‑secondary degree in Business, Finance, Supply Chain, Engineering, Economics, or a related field
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to structure and interpret complex data sets
  • Proficiency in Excel for financial modelling, cost modelling, and data analysis; strong capability in PowerPoint and Word
  • Foundational understanding of supply chain, procurement, and strategic sourcing processes
  • Ability to work with large spend and operational datasets and develop insights that support decision‑making
  • Proven ability to assess opportunities using structured reasoning and basic financial modelling
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to summarize findings succinctly for stakeholders
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Category Managers, site representatives, and cross‑functional teams
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver to deadlines
  • Motivated self‑starter with a high degree of ownership and a continuous improvement approach
  • Experience in the mining or heavy‑industry sectors is an asset

Pay Range: CAD $105,000 - $130,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
