Role Overview
Reporting to the Senior Advisor, Training & Shareholder Development, the Apprenticeship Coordinator is responsible for acting in accordance with the policies set forth by Teck Alaska and Local, State, and Federal laws associated with the Red Dog Apprenticeship Program registered with the Alaska Department of Labor.
Rotation Schedule will be 2 weeks on-site with 2 weeks off-site
Responsibilities:
• Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
• The coordinator will monitor the apprentices' career development progress, schedule online and in-person classroom training, coordinate required on-the-job training with departments, including ensuring that competencies are met. They shall work with the "best interest" of the apprentice in mind
• Upload and manage apprenticeship documentation in the Teck Learning Management System (LMS), Apprentice workbooks and the Alaska Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Partners Information Data System (RAPIDS)
• Communicate and develop relationships with Red Dog departments, NANA companies, academic and vocational organizations, pre-apprenticeship programs, signatory contractors, contractor associations, trade associations, community organizations and State & Local agencies
• Provide written reports as needed, including as required by the Red Dog Employment and Training Committee
• Review the Apprentice agreements and documentation for compliance and completion.
• Establish and maintain relationships with AK DOL personnel as needed for the good of the training program
• Maintain and create training curriculum in the LMS
• The Apprentice Coordinator is expected to pursue professional development and other educational requirements as necessary per job description responsibilities
• Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Five (5) years journeyperson level experience, completion of apprenticeship program
• Experience managing workforce development training programs is preferred
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Intermediate computer skills
• Proficient in Microsoft programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and data entry.
A combination of apprenticeship credentials and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved may be considered.
• Knowledge of/or ability to learn and apply the Teck Alaska policies and procedures
• Knowledge of/or ability to learn and apply AK DOL standards of apprenticeship -Skilled in working with a culturally and ethnically diverse group demographic
• Ability to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations
• Ability to multitask, organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with an attention to detail
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment
• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner
• Ability to effectively identify and resolve problems and to maintain strict confidentiality related to sensitive information
• Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate action to resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department staff, trainers, apprentices, AK DOL Administrative Staff, other departments, affiliates and the public.
Preferred Qualifications
• Preference may be given to individuals with Construction Craft Laborer Journeyperson credentials obtained from Red Dog Operations Training Apprenticeship Programs who have at least 5 years of journeyperson level experience.
• Preference may be given to individuals with Developing a Curriculum (DACUM) certification and experience with creating and editing training programs.
