Team Lead, RACE Strategy

Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Team Lead, Strategy. Due to anticipated needs, we are currently recruiting for a career oriented individual to fill this role. 

Reporting to the Superintendent of Strategic Planning and Development, the Team Lead, RACE Strategy is accountable for developing the strategic (RACE) improvement roadmap at Red Dog and is responsible for providing leadership to on-site RACE personnel in the execution of improvement initiatives. The team lead is directly responsible for implementing the roadmap that supports the site’s strategic vision by linking together all critical support functions across domains. 

This position will be located in the Anchorage Teck office; work schedule will be Monday - Friday 8am-5pm

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Support large initiatives with communication and adoption strategies with a focus around organizational change management best practices
  • Ensure implementation of continuous improvement principles in accordance with Teck standards including the tracking of initiatives through the stage gate process
  • Meet the requirements of the accounting best practices for managing capital projects including, submitting an AR, tracking costs, and closing accounts
  • Responsible for the economic analyses and AR development to determine the value of each improvement program and its initiatives  
  • Lead the annual budget planning cycle for RACE activities that will support the strategic roadmap developed
  • Communicate effectively with the operating departments (Mine, Mill, Maintenance and Tailings & Water) to create a realistic strategic roadmap that meets the long-term objectives
  • Strong collaboration with other Red Dog departments and confirms results with staff and management; incorporating feedback
  • Establish collaborative relationships with RACE functions (Value Delivery, Digital) as well as peers at other Teck sites to support development of the strategic RACE roadmap at Red Dog and to share learnings from Red Dog more broadly across Teck
  • Identify the key drivers of the business and define goals, objectives, and targets of those drivers
  • Make recommendations site wide about allocation of resources and assign responsibilities to manage the ideas pipeline
  • Recommends business simplification opportunities as recognized and oversee implementation
  • Support the training and development of the RACE personnel to integrate with site and meet site requirements
  • Protect the safety and health of employees by promoting safe working procedures and health programs in accordance with Company policy and appropriate regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Finance, Engineering, or Processing, or other related field
  • 5+ years in the mining industry in an open pit/underground setting and/or digital environment
  • Experienced leader with ability to engage, build trust, inspire change, direct and lead a high-performance team
  • Strong technical background with a broad spectrum of projects in mine, process, maintenance, environment, sustainability, etc. is required
  • Solid strategic mindset with an emphasis on setting a vision or future state
  • Advanced analytical, problem solving, prioritization and decision making abilities
  • Superior interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment and work effectively across all levels of the business
  • Capable of working efficiently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office Suite

Successful candidates must be fully vaccinated against infection by COVID-19, subject to an exemption approved by Teck Alaska.
