Role Overview
Reporting to the Lead, General Accounting, the Accounting Supervisor is responsible for overseeing key accounting functions, including assigned areas of the month-end close process, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial reporting. This role also provides oversight and support for accounts payable and payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and the timely execution of financial processes.
This position is based in Anchorage, Alaska and follows a Monday to Friday schedule, with standard working hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Key Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
- Own assigned areas of the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close, including the preparation and review of journal entries in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
- Prepare, review, and resolve balance sheet account reconciliations, ensuring financial information is accurate, complete, and delivered on a timely basis.
- Analyze financial variances and investigate accounting issues impacting financial statements, recommending and implementing corrective actions as required.
- Provide oversight of payroll and accounts payable operations to ensure accuracy, timeliness, compliance, and effective internal controls.
- Review and approve payroll- and accounts payable-related journal entries, reconciliations, payment runs, and clearing account reconciliations, ensuring outstanding items are identified and resolved promptly.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of payroll tax filings and government reporting requirements, including Form 941, 1099, 1042, W-2, T4, and ESTMA reporting.
- Monitor payroll controls and compliance within SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll and collaborate with HRIS and Payroll teams to address system issues, testing activities, defect resolution, and enhancement requests.
- Provide direction, coaching, review, and feedback to accounting staff.
- Partner with HR, Operations, Corporate Head Office, and other internal stakeholders to support business objectives and resolve accounting-related matters.
- Support accounting activities associated with the ERP transition to SAP S/4HANA.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Accounting required.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Strong understanding of month-end close processes, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Knowledge of payroll accounting and payroll tax compliance.
- Experience with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.
- CPA designation or CPA candidate is an asset.
- Public accounting experience in audit or tax.
- Experience with SAP systems, including SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll and SAP S/4HANA.
- Experience in mining, manufacturing, or industrial environments is an asset.
