Role Overview
The Senior Accountant - Data (SAP Implementation) plays a key role in Teck’s Transformation Program by applying strong accounting expertise to finance master data, data migration, and end-to-end ERP process design. This role ensures financial data integrity, internal controls, and alignment with accounting standards throughout the SAP S/4HANA implementation. The position partners closely with Accounting and Data teams in Anchorage and Vancouver, BC, across all project phases. This is an accounting-focused role and does not require programming or system configuration skills.
This is an 18-month, full-time temporary position created to support our ERP conversion to SAP. While the role is temporary, it offers a competitive salaried structure along with full medical benefits and 401(k) eligibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhering to and sponsoring safety and environmental rules and procedures.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of accounting data throughout the migration lifecycle.
- Review Chart of Accounts, Cost Centers, Profit Centers, and related master data and transactional data for financial integrity.
- Validate financial data mappings from legacy ERP systems to SAP S/4HANA, ensuring alignment with accounting rules.
- Support pre-load and post-load data validation, reconciliation, and defect resolution.
- Understand legacy accounting processes, financial reports, and journal entries to be able to test the new system for accuracy and consistency.
- Provide accounting input into Business Process Documents (BPDs), functional specifications, and testing scenarios.
- Partner with Finance, IT, and data migration teams to ensure accounting requirements are accurately represented.
- Support process design activities across Record-to-Report, Procure-to-Pay, and Order-to-Cash streams.
- Participate in data governance activities involving accounting judgment, internal controls, and data quality standards.
- Assist with testing and documentation of SAP financial processes, data flows, and system logic.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- Public accounting experience preferred; CPA designation is a plus.
- 5+ years of progressive high-level accounting experience in financial reporting, general ledger, cost accounting, internal controls, audit, or tax.
- Ability to independently interpret financial data and accurately apply accounting logic in a system and data migration environment.
- Experience with ERP systems required; SAP S/4HANA experience is an asset.
- Strong understanding of reconciliations, financial data structures, and internal controls.
- Ability to communicate accounting requirements clearly across technical and non-technical teams.
- Requires the use of MS 365 Suite: Microsoft Teams, Excel, Word, Azure DevOps, etc.
