QB2 will be a premier asset, with low operating costs, an initial mine life of 28 years, and significant potential for further growth. During its operation, QB2 will employ over 2,000 people.

QB2 will be one of Teck's most innovative and integrated operations.
QB2 will be the first operation to incorporate a remote Integrated Operations Centre (IOC), located in Santiago, to bring together all the resources and data necessary for centralized decision making and help achieve better operational performance, improved integration and flexibility, a more inclusive workforce, and a safer work environment.
QB2 is expected to start operating with a mixed fleet of traditional and new autonomous haul trucks to improve safety performance and operational efficiency.

Sustainability
The pursuit of sustainability guides Teck’s approach to business and includes ambitious goals to reduce our carbon footprint, improve ecosystems and biodiversity, and responsibly manage our use of water.
For the QB2 project, we are building a large-scale desalination plant to conserve freshwater and enable the use of desalinated seawater for the mining process. When operating at full capacity, it will purify about 1,000 litres of water per second. Approximately half the power required for operation of QB2 will come from renewable energy sources.
A series of measures designed to protect biodiversity are currently being incorporated into the QB2 project design. These include the capture and relocation of low- and medium-mobility wildlife species such as reptiles and micro-mammals.
