Job Summary:
We are looking for energetic and dynamic individuals to join our growing project team! San Nicolas is a large undeveloped copper-zinc VHMS deposit located in Zacatecas State in Central Mexico. The project has recently completed a Pre-feasibility Study and is advancing into Feasibility Study applying for major regulatory approvals. San Nicolas is committed to advancing the asset towards development, and we are hiring new team members to support engineering and permit-related activities leading up to a sanction decision for construction anticipated in 2024.

Reporting to the SERA Manager, the Community Relations Manager is responsible for building and maintaining a positive and proactive relationship with communities of interest (COI) within the area of influence and at the regional level. Responsible for monitoring and assessing the social risks associated with operating in the community and identifying opportunities to engage IOCs. The Manager, Community Relations is responsible for the design, promotion, and implementation, in a proactive manner, of the Social Management Plan, through the creation of partnerships with Communities of Interest, communicating project activities, solving and mitigating concerns, identifying opportunities to engage and promote local employment and social and community investment programs. Also, ensuring that the expansion and operation programs do not jeopardize local economic, political, social, or environmental conditions and that activities are conducted in a safe, socially, and environmentally responsible manner in accordance with the Company's HSEC Guidelines. This position will include interactions with all levels of staff across all key functions, from operational staff to senior management.
Responsibilities:
- Be a courageous safety leader who complies with and sponsors the company's environmental and health and safety standards and procedures.
- Maintains a relationship with the environmental leaders and helps them meet their objectives, including support for technical issues, compliance with permit requirements and existing provisions, applicable regulations, and proper risk management.
- Design and implement a community of social and community practice, to share leading practices across the company and support professional development.
- Supports effective implementation and adherence to Teck´s Community Management Standards (HSEC) and other relevant guidance documents.
- Interacts with industry associations and government agencies in developing or reviewing applicable regulations and social development programs.
- Actively participates as a company representative in previously selected government and industry associations, including the Chamber of Mining of Mexico, the Zacatecas Mining Cluster, and other prominent organizations.
- Leads the strategy of baseline registration and social mapping, data, and records of the Social Management of the project in auditable mode, using the platforms of the Project, such as the Unified Management System and the corresponding corporate platforms.
- Implement social risk mitigation tools, including community engagement through Dialogue; Community Investment; employment and Local Procurement; and the Feedback and Grievance Mechanism.
- Ensure that Teck's Policies, Protocols, Standards, and Tools are being properly applied throughout the Social Management work of the Project.
- Design the social communication strategy of the Project using the tools of open houses, guided tours, audiovisual materials, and public participation.
- Ensure that the Project's policies, protocols, tools, and standards are properly applied throughout the Social Management work of the Project. And in the performance of all activities. In particular to Health and Safety policies; Human rights; ethics and anti-corruption, among others.
Qualifications:
- University degree in Social Sciences and related fields, emphasizing on Community Relations and Social Management.
- Specialized master's and/or doctoral studies in disciplines related to Social Sciences.
- 10-15 or more years of experience in the mining industry.
- A high level of scientific knowledge and practical experience in a social specialty relevant to mining and community relations.
- Advanced level of experience in data management and reporting, geographic information systems, including database systems.
- Experience in the development and maintenance of social management systems and risk management systems.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Excellent facilitation skills and verbal and written communication.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Able to positively influence other teams, regulators, and communities of interest.
- Able to manage a technically diverse staff and consultants making use of their strengths and providing the necessary support to help them be effective.
- Fluent in spoken and written Spanish and English language skills.
- Flexibility in working hours.
- Availability to travel nationally and internationally.
