Senior Mining Specialist

Technology and Innovation is comprised of three groups: Digital Analytics, Digital Systems, and the Autonomy, Innovation & Strategy (also referred to as Enterprise Improvement Planning).

RACE is Teck’s Digital Transformation program. The Digital Analytics team is a key contributor to RACE, and acts as an enabler of innovation and digital transformation for the mining industry. Digital Analytics acts in support of Teck’s purpose and strives to scale sustainable impact to new customers – both internal and external to Teck.

This outstanding team of individuals is paving/innovating the future of mining, by developing and implementing digital solutions which bring to bear advanced analytics and artificial intelligence to diagnose, predict and prescribe improvements for mining organization (or across the value chain, enhancing operational performance, safety, and sustainability.

Reporting to the Lead, Customer Success Practices, the Senior Mining Specialist will be a subject matter authority in the specified mining domain (Processing, Load & Haul, etc.) and will serve as a resource, working cross-functionally with other teams, including within Customer Success, Sales, Marketing and Digital teams. The Mining Specialist will have deep domain knowledge that is up-to-date with market technologies and the customer’s expectations and requirements in digital products.

Responsibilities

• Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures

• Working in collaboration with product owners, designers, developers, and data scientists to provide industry perspective that guides product feature development, ensuring solutions tackle a valuable business problem, exceed industry standards and are technically relevant in the mining industry

• Receive, document and report on customer feedback during implementation, translating end user feedback to ensure products meet business objectives and will be embraced by end users

• Build supporting relationships with Customer Success Managers, to act as a trusted advisor and help them achieve their goals with our products and services

• Work in collaboration with Adoption Specialists and Support teams to ensure well-executed product implementation. Complete assessments of people, systems and processes of soon-to-be customers to confirm our products can be successfully rolled-out

• Support sales and marketing team with market research, technical understanding, vendor recommendations and interactions with potential customers

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in sciences, Applied Sciences, or equivalent, relevant to the specified domain

• 8+ years of experience either with subject matter expertise or operational experience in a resource extraction domain, including mine engineering, mine operations, ore quality or processing

• Previous experience in data science, data engineering, software engineering and/or deployment within the resource industry, as well as experience in agile project management styles would be an asset

• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences

• Proven ability to build strong relationships with external customers and internal groups

• Experience working in a fast-paced, multifaceted environment, with the ability to prioritize and effectively lead multiple projects simultaneously

• Passion for customer success, with a desire to continually improve the customer experience

Salary Range: $115,000 - $142,000 

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
