Reporting to the Manager, Commercial Excellence, the Senior Contract Specialist, Commercial, is responsible for leading the full contracting lifecycle. This includes developing and recommending contract strategies, such as identifying compensation and market approach models. The process also involves creating detailed contract risk registers and implementing prevention and mitigation strategies. Further responsibilities include driving Request for Proposal (RFP) processes, evaluating proposals, and negotiating agreements. This individual will make recommendations for awards, conform contracts for execution, coordinate contract activities, and ensure contract closure. Coordination with the project teams, and corporate shared service groups is required.

 

This outstanding individual will collaborate with internal and external lawyers, contracts and procurement professionals, alongside employees and external service providers! They will ensure that company contracts effectively define and lead the legal, commercial, and technical obligations and objectives of the parties involved, protecting and advancing company interests to improve shareholder returns.

Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures

  • Provide market information and rate intelligence to the organization to support consultant and contractor engagements

  • Develop and recommend project contracting strategies for a variety of service contracts

  • Curate contract strategies and contract plans, ensuring contract strategies consider appropriate commercial, legal, and technical approach throughout the scope of contracts

  • Develop and maintain Teck’s MSAs for management consultants, ensuring there are appropriate agreements in place for Teck’s strategic partners

  • Oversee the planning, preparation, and management of the RFP documents and process

  • Evaluate commercial proposals and facilitate the evaluation process, ensuring all records are retained

  • Undertake commercial risk assessment on technical documentation forming part the RFP and contract suite

  • Negotiate commercial and legal terms on behalf of the company, including drafting recommended amendments to the legal conditions for approval by corporate counsel

  • Support project managers during execution of the agreement and facilitate performance reviews at the end of the contract. 

  • Proactively mentor the Project Managers and functional teams to communicate contract management strategies and considerations throughout all stages of contracts lifecycles

  • Interpret legal and commercial terms and rely on those terms to coordinate contractors, advise project team members to resolve disputes and claims

  • Implement effective change management to ensure contract modifications are accurately detailed and approved

  • Develop accurate contracts management policies, procedures, and templates for the Project Development group

  • Develop quarterly and annual spend reports for high volume contracts and consultants

  • Have a continuous improvement plan each year that strives to improve margin and lower costs associated with service contracts in areas not currently under category management

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in a related field

  • 10+ years of experience in a procurement and contracting role and implementing contract lifecycle activities

  • Proficient knowledge or experience in mining and/or oil and gas sectors is seen as an asset

  • Awareness of project lifecycles, project procedures, project roles and responsibilities

  • Strong understanding and experience with various contract types, models, strategies

  • Strong negotiation and dispute resolution skills

  • Data analysis and the ability to identify areas where increased commercial support would bring value

  • Excellent critical and conceptual thinking skills

  • Good interpersonal skills as well as strong written and verbal communication skills

Salary Range: $132,000 - $163,000 

 

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
