Senior Accountant (Contract)

To be successful, we are looking for someone with advanced analytical, critical, problem-solving and decision-making abilities, who is also detail oriented and meticulous in their work. The successful candidate would use strong interpersonal and communication skills to present financial data in a meaningful way that increases the impact and value for the audience. The ability to thrive under pressure and work independently to meet challenging priorities while building relationships within the team is vital for success in this role.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Review or/and  prepare  monthly transactions/Journal entries
  • Review  or/and prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reconciliation final  reports
  • Address adhoc requests
  • Review and document  business cases and determine accounting treatment
  • Set up project codes
  • Change setup of existing employees/contractors
  • Provide IFRS guidance on accounting treatment or accounting implications (as needed) on any new activities or specific transactions
  • Accrual process -
      • Coordinate and communicate timing/process with all related parties
      • Review and or prepare the accruals for accuracy for the overall department
  • Prepare or review the service fee
  • Review and update auditors  documentation
  • Design and implement SOX documentation, processes, and controls for the department  
  • Ensure that all processes and frameworks are aligned with existing IFRS accounting policies, practices, and reporting and that SOX  internal controls are applied appropriately
  • Assist in managing/coordinating SRED process
  • Manage or and assist internal & external audit.
  • Maintain cross-departmental relationships
  • Assume day-to-day responsibility for numerous, and often changing, projects and tasks
  • Other tasks/projects as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or other relevant field
  • Minimum seven years of post-designation experience or 3 years of public practice accounting firm
  • CPA designation preferred
  • Cost accounting or and project accounting experience
  • Advanced excel skills
  • Experience with financial accounting systems (D365,HFM)
  • Familiarity with IFRS (intangible assets, PPE, impairment)
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Proven excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to deal effectively with ambiguity and keep top-level confidence
  • Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across departments
