Manager of Software Development - RACE21

Reporting to the RACE21™ Director of Digital, the Manager of Software Development will be responsible for building and growing software development, automation testing and CloudOps disciplines within the digital organization.

You will work closely with the Manager of Product, Manager of Data Science, Value Delivery team as well as external partners and suppliers in order to successfully deliver advanced analytics products and projects across the RACE21™ portfolio spanning mining, processing, maintenance and integrated operations business domains.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Hire and manage your teams, including conducting performance evaluations and developing staff training and development plans
  • Collaborate with other technical and business leaders to ensure delivery teams have clear direction and priorities
  • Facilitate development of performance objectives and metrics, allocating resources and managing team performance and quality of results
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external partners and suppliers augmenting internal development teams
  • Provide strategic oversight of technical architecture across all products within the portfolio in close collaboration with technical leads, solution architects and product team
  • Steward development of guidelines and best practices across a variety of areas such as test-driven development, continuous integration, automated testing and deployment
  • You are a generalist familiar with more than one process, language, framework, platform and environment and are capable of diving into the deepest parts of technologies when called for
  • Champion evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies, tools and frameworks
  • Lead outreach activities into software development communities (e.g. hackathons, meetups, conferences) in collaboration with the Director of Digital and HR Team

 

Qualifications:

  • A university degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field
  • 10+ years of proven, hands-on professional software development experience architecting, building, deploying, and maintaining software products and solutions
  • Proven leader of technical teams, regardless of stack, with a track-record of building and cultivating high-performing, inclusive, diverse teams
  • Deep agile product development experience and experience with at least one of the multi-team agile delivery models
  • Proven experience managing relationships with parties outside of engineering
  • Experience designing software architectures for scalability, reliability and performance
  • Proven experience working with one of the major cloud service providers
  • Demonstrated leadership in DevOps, infrastructure automation and CI/CD
  • Proven expertise with microservices and modern web and mobile development technologies
  • Knowledge of machine learning approaches and algorithms, and experience building complex systems that involve predictive models or applications of machine learning
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to think strategically while staying on top of tactical execution
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) an asset 
  • Experience working in mining industry an asset
