Indigenous Relations Co-op

For this exciting position, we are specifically targeting students who have a background in Indigenous studies, social science, international development, sustainability, business/economic development, public policy, or other relevant programs. Reporting to the Manager, Indigenous Relations, the Indigenous Relations Co-op supports the implementation of Indigenous Relations strategic priorities. The Indigenous Relations Co-op is responsible for supporting the planning and delivery of Indigenous Recognition Day initiatives and the Indigenous Cultural Awareness Training program. The Indigenous Relations Co-op also supports with advancing a culture of Reconciliation at Teck, and engagement with internal and external partners.
Strong preference given to candidates identifying as Indigenous, including First Nations, Metis, or Inuit. We are striving to build a team that has personal experience with the language, culture, history and customs of Indigenous Peoples. It will greatly assist us with screening if you refer in your application to your Indigenous identity. Recognizing the impacts of colonization on Indigenous people, it is your choice whether to volunteer information. We will hold your application in strictest confidence, sharing it only with the hiring panel.
If you are not currently located in the area of this co-op position, you must be willing to either commute or relocate to the surrounding area for the entire duration of the co-op term.. You must also currently be a student enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the co-op term (you will also be returning back to the post-secondary institution once the co-op term is completed). Proof of a valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.

Salary Range: $4000 - $5000 / Month
Salary is commensurate with the number of academic semesters and prior co-op experiences completed.
Responsibilities

Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures

Coordinate activities for the acknowledgement of Indigenous Recognition Days (Moose Hide Campaign Day, Red Dress Day, National Indigenous History Month, National Indigenous Peoples Day, International Day of World’s Indigenous Peoples, and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation).

Organize in-person and virtual employee engagement events with Indigenous speakers and partners

Support the delivery of Teck’s Indigenous Cultural Awareness Training program

Support the delivery of the Indigenous Community Investment program, including coordinating event participation and assisting with program administration

Support the collection and reporting of Indigenous-related data using Teck platforms

Conduct research on industry and global developments in Indigenous Relations as needed
Qualifications
-
Currently enrolled in a relevant post-secondary program such as Indigenous studies, social science, international development, sustainability, business/economic development, public policy, or other relevant program.

Must be enrolled in a recognized and accredited Canadian post-secondary institution throughout the duration of the term

Experience working directly or indirectly with Indigenous communities and/or organizations is an asset.

Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.

Strong organization skills with event planning experience.

Data analysis and report writing skills

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint).

Personal reference letters from an Indigenous community, business, and/or Indigenous non-profit organization can form part of the application.
