Reporting to the Manager – Data & Information, Exploration Support, The Analyst (GIS), Data and Information – Exploration Support is responsible for providing mentorship, support and oversight of core technical data management systems within Teck’s Exploration Business Unit. This outstanding candidate will support GIS and data management efforts for exploration projects across Teck’s global portfolio. The successful candidate will be proficient with industry-leading database and GIS applications and have a solid understanding of information and file management procedures. They will facilitate continuous improvement and innovations in the acquisition, storage, management, access, integration and analysis of diverse spatial and time series data. The role will further support innovation initiatives crafted for the automation of workflows, including integration and optimization of critical geoscientific datasets!

Responsibilities

 

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures

  • Provide technical support for end-users of GIS software, including production of technical instructional guides and manuals, delivering training materials and documenting workflows

  • Act as an administrator in Teck’s ArcGIS Online system, maintaining data/metadata standards and naming conventions, health, license allocation, production and maintenance of web maps and applications

  • Support the curation and execution of data management and integration workflows, queries, automated technical and business reporting, and other methods of providing content to users in a balanced manner. Draw from data types and sources not limited to GIS, IoT sensors, maps, geologic sections, vector models, remote sensing data, satellite imagery, environmental and social baseline, virtual reality

  • Collaborate with office, field and operations-based employees to understand business objectives and to provide mentorship for the efficient and cost-effective management of project information throughout its lifecycle

  • Manage the implementation of new data capture tools using mobile and cloud solutions appropriate to facilitate real-time coordinated data-driven decision-making

  • Perform quality assurance on generated results to enforce data integrity and ensure metadata and spatial data standards are maintained

  • Coordinate enterprise database systems for drilling and sampling (acQuire), spatial GIS content (ESRI), and 3D modelling (Leapfrog Central)

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelors or equivalent experience in Earth Sciences or Geoscience field and/or specialized certification in GIS. A post-graduate degree is considered an asset

  • A minimum 3-5 years of experience in GIS and database applications at an advanced level. Experience in mining and mineral exploration is preferred

  • Proficiency with SQL databases is required (implementation, management, querying). Knowledge of Python scripting is preferred

  • Experience with ESRI’s Arc Enterprise systems including implementation and management of ESRI spatial data environments and related tools (e.g ArcMap, ArcPro, Portal, ArcGIS online)

  • Proven knowledge of mobile field collection platforms including ArcGIS Collector, Field maps and Survey123

  • Experience in data analytical and dashboarding programs including Power BI and ArcGIS Insights

  • Experience with spatial data querying and processing, specifically within the ESRI environment is an asset

  • Experience with FME (server and desktop) for spatial file conversion and automation tasks

  • Experience and skills in other relevant GIS and 3D software (ioGAS, Leapfrog, Oasis Montaj, GoCAD, Krux, Imago, MX Deposit)

  • Superb communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively independently and within diverse teams

  • Driven by achieving results with strong organizational, planning, prioritization, and problem-solving skills

Salary Range: $82,000 - $101,000 

 

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
