Reporting to the Head, Strategic Sourcing & Supply Management, the Director, Global Sourcing and Category Management is accountable for strategic sourcing and category management for operationally critical and global spend on goods and services for all of Teck’s operating sites and projects. The Director will lead a Center of Excellence team to drive value and performance-based improvements, effectively managing spend within strategic supply contracts in service of our operating sites, functional groups, and projects.
Critical supply categories to support all Teck operating sites are sourced through a centralized supply chain management model. The spend is approximately one billion per annum across five operating sites and covers categories such as heavy mobile equipment, Off the Road (OTR) tires, explosives, fuel, grinding media, chemicals and Maintenance repair and operations (MRO) supplies. Core accountabilities include strategic sourcing practices, market and commercial analysis, supplier development, and full lifecycle contract management. The Director is also responsible to identify and grow other significant supply categories, deriving value for the organization through strategic supply sources and ensuring that the strategic sourcing methodology is leading practice for the organization.

Responsibilities

Strategy, Operating Model and Structure

Provide leadership and coordination to support Teck’s strategy and vision for supply chain management, strategic priorities and continuous improvement

Build best in class supply chain management capability and the development of competencies in both direct reports and the supply chain organization through highly engaged and diverse functional teams

Communicate strategic direction, set clear priorities, foster team accountability, and deliver on value and performance-based improvements
Global Sourcing and Category Management

Accountable for ‘Source to Contract’ delivery of global categories that meet or exceed operating and project requirements

Full contract lifecycle management including strategy preparation, technical business requirements gathering, market and commercial analysis, indexation and escalation, negotiations, contract drafting and execution, and contract management

Provide leadership and support to global category managers to drive value creation and realization through the application of Teck’s strategic sourcing methodology

Accountable for Teck’s strategic sourcing methodology reflecting industry and commercial best practice including demand management and forecasting, business strategy and alignment and the commercial RFx processes

Performance Management

Ensure delivery of transparent, competitive, and robust commercial agreements that prevent the erosion of value

Monitor and report actual financial performances and variances against the original projected category/contract targets

Conduct ongoing contract performance management to ensure security of supply, and track fulfilment, spend, value and benefits
Governance and Leadership
-
Prepare five-year business plans, develop annual budgets, and manage costs associated with the execution of related activities

Mitigate business risks by building resilient supply strategies and generating value through development of long-term demand forecasts

Mentor and develop supply management personnel on leading practices related to strategic sourcing methodology including market analysis, demand analysis, strategy development, planning and driving negotiations, contract management, and supplier relationship management

Provide supply management representation to support corporate initiatives requiring subject matter expertise and input on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) stewardship
Commercial and Relationship Management

Build internal partnerships with the operations and functional departments to align supply needs, forecasts, and timelines

Advance, monitor and manage key supplier relationships to ensuring delivery of business objectives including active performance management, ongoing alignment of business priorities and preferential supply as a ‘customer of choice’

Lead or participate in sourcing strategy and special negotiations with suppliers that arise for situations outside scope of current contracts including intervention and issue resolution

Develop and implement supplier relationship and performance management frameworks to ensure outstanding performance and foster integration and innovation
Qualifications
-
Supply Chain Management Professional designation or degree in a related business field

Minimum 15 years of experience in supply chain management with 10 years of experience in senior leadership roles

Extensive knowledge of technical requirements and commercial law, preferably in the mining industry, or similar sectors such as energy or heavy industry

Advanced business knowledge, analytical skills and a confirmed history in strategic sourcing, negotiation and contracting

Demonstrated ability to engage, communicate and collaborate with a broad range of key players required for the development and implementation of category strategies

Salary Range: $172,000 - $213,000
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
