Technician, Fish Habitat Management/Fish Monitoring

We are currently hiring for multiple technicians in support of our commitment towards responsible mining and ensuring the environment and fish biodiversity are sustainable in the Elk Valley, now and for generations to come!


Reporting to the Coordinator, Environment, the Technicians, Fish Habitat Management and Fish Monitoring will be responsible for supporting the operational practices for safely implementing a variety of programs, studies, and activities relating to fish habitat management and monitoring. This includes supporting all Elk-Valley site-specific major (operational) permitting applications, and ongoing adherence to Teck’s safety and environmental standards.   


The Technician, Fish Habitat Management will support the operational practices for safely implementing fish mitigation standards for the Coal Business Unit. The Technician Fish Habitat Management is responsible for assisting in the execution and direct supervision of construction projects related to fish exclusion, fish salvage and relocation and other projects related to the management of fish habitat.


The Technician, Fish Monitoring will support the operational practices for safely implementing a variety of fish life history, and flow related monitoring programs in the Coal Business Unit. The Technician, Fish Monitoring is responsible for assisting in planning and direct supervision of monitoring programs and other projects related to the monitoring of fish habitat.

We require a motivated individual with strong written and verbal communication skills, who is passionate about the outdoors in all seasons and can thrive in the field regardless of varying weather conditions.

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Schedule and plan resources required to successfully support fish habitat management projects, fish and fish habitat monitoring programs, and other activities as assigned
  • Supervise and support multiple teams of contractors and consultants at our various operations to confirm work scope, and schedule, are adhered to while maintaining compliance with applicable safety and environmental standards
  • Conduct contractor management duties to ensure a safe and efficient approach including adhering to site access procedures, both at operations and offsite areas
  • Maintain and update contractor performance records and provide input to regular contractor and consultant review process
  • Identify areas for innovation to ensure continuous improvement of Teck’s processes
  • Communicate emerging issues to Supervisor as necessary



  • Degree or Diploma in Science, Engineering, or an environmental-related field; An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered
  • Minimum one year of experience in technical field programs and project management in the natural resource sector, preferably in mining
  • Technical knowledge and demonstrated experience in field monitoring and sampling programs
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with various groups in a team environment to efficiently carry out field programs effectively
