Supervisor, Environmental Systems

Reporting to the Manager, Engineering Systems, this position will lead and supervise a dedicated team of specialists who deliver and sustain a technology portfolio that supports the Environmental domain across Teck’s operations. This role provides technical leadership for projects in the $100K to $10M range, with an annual value of business impacted by these projects exceeding $25M. 

 

The incumbent is responsible for team member engagement and product road-mapping in order to establish the prioritization and strategy for sustainment and project delivery within a portfolio of Environmental technologies across Teck operations globally. Technologies may involve ground and surface water monitoring systems (data acquisition and sensing), tailings monitoring solutions, gas / particulate monitoring, or a multitude of other technology enabled business solutions. 

 

The Environmental Systems team handles a portfolio of business-critical systems used to optimize the environmental sustainability of Teck’s mining operations. The successful candidate will collaborate with innovative software, hardware, and service suppliers to develop, deliver and maintain these systems.

Responsibilities

 

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and sustainability policies and procedures. 
  • Supervise a specialist technology team including performance management, mentoring and coaching. 
  • Lead development and sustainable delivery of a sophisticated portfolio of integrated off-the-shelf and custom developed technology projects across Teck operations globally. 
  • Handle project budgets and forecasts including allocation of resources between projects within the portfolio. 
  • Lead development of technology strategy and roadmap development within assigned business and technology domains through a product lens.
  • Foster relationships across all Teck operations and corporate offices using contacts to facilitate alignment of project objectives with Technical strategy and overall objectives. 
  • Continuously improve delivery efficiency and effectiveness via continuous monitoring of core metrics, KPIs, and other critical success factors. 
  • Apply organizational change management and management of change techniques to improve adoption of new technologies while minimizing the risks created by change to industrial environments. 
  • Support purchasing teams in negotiating for products and services. 
  • Proactively manage risks and resolve problems. 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s or post-graduate degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent -OR- Bachelors in Environmental Sciences / related with a career focus on environmental technology. 
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressively senior level experience delivering and supporting technology, ideally within industrial organizations. 
  • Deep understanding of environmental business processes and associated technologies. 
  • Working understanding of systems architecture, design thinking, systems integration, cyber-security, IoT technologies and industrial control systems. 
  • Able to work comfortably with a high degree of autonomy in an environment of fast-paced change and ambiguity. 
  • Demonstrated leader who empowers, coaches, and mentors employees. 
  • Outstanding program and project management skills and solid understanding of business analysis techniques. 
  • Strong dedication to customer satisfaction and the ability to maintain lasting relationships with business partners and strategic suppliers. 
  • Strong analytical capabilities and problem-solving abilities. 
  • Excellent communication, influencing and negotiating skills. 
  • Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across departments. 
  • Outstanding managerial and interpersonal skills. 
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish would be an asset.

Salary Range: $115,000 - $142,000

 

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
