Senior Lead, Local Scale Watershed Planning

Reporting to the Senior Supervisor, Local Scale Planning, the Senior Lead, Local Scale Watershed Planning is responsible for technical direction and integration of information from a range of scientific and engineering subject areas to advance mitigation planning for the management of mine-affected watersheds. These plans will provide direction towards achieving water quality and quantity, aquatic health, and business planning objectives at a watershed scale. This role has the potential to be situated either in Sparwood or Calgary.

 

To be successful, we are looking for someone with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills. This is vital as you will be leading a diverse team of technical and planning experts and working with many partners and communities of interest towards building complex watershed management plans. Above all else, we require an individual who has outstanding critical thinking and problem-solving skills, who can provide technical and strategic direction related to water quality, quantity, and aquatic health risk management at a watershed scale.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Work with and lead internal contributors and external consultants to develop integrated plans at a watershed scale to address issues of water quantity, water quality, and aquatic health
  • Technical and strategic review and direction for study designs, reports, and engagement material to support development and implementation of integrated watershed management plans
  • Project management to align plans, budgets, schedules, and manage risks and opportunities within watershed management planning activities
  • Build relationships with Indigenous groups, regulatory agencies, and communities
  • Manage and mentor staff and consultants to fulfill watershed planning objectives

 


Qualifications:

  • Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or other related field, or a relevant combination of education and experience
  • Minimum ten years’ experience in any of the following areas: mine planning, water management, environmental compliance, regulatory approvals and strategy, or water policy development or related subject fields
  • Experience in leading multidisciplinary projects and consulting teams
  • Experience working with Indigenous groups and regulatory agencies
  • Knowledge and experience with compliance practices and regulations related to water quality, quantity, aquatic health, and water management

Salary Range: $115000.0 - $142000.0

 

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

 

Successful candidates must be willing to satisfy the pre-employment requirements of a pre-employment drug screen and three professional references.
