Geologist

Reporting to the Senior Geologist Supervisor, the Geologist is responsible for short range geology tasks related to mapping, interpretation, geophysical logging, data management, and inventory tracking. As development progresses and opportunities arise, exposure to other roles within the Geology Team will allow for further professional development! Such as database data management, exploration support, 3D block modeling, reserve and resource reporting, monthly and quarterly reconciliations, and product blending.

Excellent critical thinking, time management, communication, and organizational skills are vital in this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Demonstrate Teck’s safety culture by identifying all work related hazards, eliminating or isolating hazards, and adhering to all safety protocols
  • Promote a culture of safety, cost awareness, continuous improvement, and diversity in the workplace
  • Plan and execute geophysical borehole logging and interpretation
  • Support structural and stratigraphic geological interpretation through: geological face mapping, high wall mapping and related geological interpretation using all exploration and production drilling data
  • Assist with, or coverage of, the coal quality role
  • Manage daily field data, coal blends, and inventory tracking
  • Support blending requirements as required for daily, 12 week, and 18 month forecasts
  • Communicate with various personnel within all aspects of the operation; ensuring accurate information is available to all groups, at all times

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, or Geological Engineering
  • Registered P.Geo or an experienced GIT with the potential to register with EGBC as a P.Geo
  • Proven track record of working in and promoting a safe, diverse work environment is mandatory
  • Proficient in MinePlan, acQuire, and MS Office software systems, or similar software
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License or equivalent
  • Previous work experience in a mining environment; previous experience in open pit, truck, and shovel operations is an asset
  • Experience working on exploration projects is an asset

Salary Range: $103,000 - $127,000

 

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

 

Successful candidates must be willing to satisfy the pre-employment requirements of a pre-employment drug screen and three professional references.
