Environmental Coordinator, Fish Monitoring

Reporting to the Lead, Fish Habitat Management, the Environmental Coordinator, Fish Monitoring is responsible for supporting the planning and delivery of fish and fish habitat monitoring programs and studies for our Coal business unit, including all Elk Valley operations. You will assist in planning and supervising fieldwork within and outside operational mine boundaries and ensuring fish monitoring and study activities adhere to safety and environmental standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Schedule and plan resources required to successfully support fish and fish habitat monitoring programs and studies
  • Supervise and direct teams of contractors and consultants working on projects and studies to ensure project scope, schedule, and budget are adhered to
  • Interact with regulators, local Indigenous Nations, and mine personnel to inform and resolve issues regarding fish and fish habitat monitoring programs and studies
  • Track and coordinate fish and fish habitat monitoring and study data into centralized data management systems
  • Work with mine operations to maintain and manage data collection methods, standards, and reporting
  • Identify areas for innovation to ensure continuous improvement of fish and fish habitat monitoring and study programs

 

Qualifications:

  • Science or Engineering degree or diploma in an environmental-related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as a professional biologist in British Columbia
  • Minimum three years demonstrated ability working in fish and fish habitat monitoring or study work
  • Technical knowledge and demonstrated experience in fish and fish habitat monitoring programs
  • Experience supervising or leading contractors or consultants
  • Solid understanding of provincial and federal regulatory approvals practices, legislation and regulations, preferably within British Columbia
