Reporting to the Materials Supervisor, the Buyer is responsible for obtaining the best total value in the acquisition of materials and services to meet the ongoing needs of user departments while supporting all Materials Shared Services initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Ensure the timely and cost effective supply of materials and services
  • Negotiate contract terms and conditions while maintaining vendor relationships
  • Develop and maintain progressive internal partnerships
  • Manage procurement processes from inception to conclusion
  • Research and provide information to department supervisors concerning new products and services
  • Contribute to the ongoing integrity of the Materials Shared Services department
  • Ensure all assigned duties and projects are completed in a timely manner
  • Contribute to the design, development, and training of Enterprise Resource Planning system enhancements
  • Become familiar with existing Teck Coal and departmental operating policies and procedures
  • Participate in any Training and Skills development program
  • Perform other responsibilities as required or as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree/certificate/designation such as: SCMA or similar Supply Management program would be preferable, while Accounting or Business related designations may be considered beneficial; and/or
  • Minimum five years of experience
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, proven interpersonal skills, and follow-up skills
  • Excellent computer skills and experience with the Microsoft Office Suite®
  • Self-motivated, capable of working under minimal supervision, and function best in a high performance work environment
  • Excellent negotiating, problem solving, and decision making skills
  • Experience in the Supply Management field with a good understanding of contract structures, terms, and conditions2018
