The Automation Specialist, reporting to the Senior Process Engineer is accountable for developing, implementing, supporting, and maintaining all aspects control across the Coal Business Unit. Supporting Line Creek Operations (LCO) and Elkview Operations (EVO) in their efforts to optimize their processes through an ambitious program of sensor and control system renewal. 


To be successful in this role we are looking for someone with outstanding problem solving, interpersonal, and communication skills. Someone who is a motivated self-starter, organized, and able to prioritize contending demands in a fast-paced and dynamic team environment.

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Work with LCO and EVO teams and legacy automation documents to support the control system transition
  • Developing loop diagrams for existing and new instruments
  • Develop cable tray layout for new cables
  • Support identifying cabinet layout
  • Work with installation contractor to ensure field work is completed per requirement
  • Ensure design documentation is accurate and correct based on field installations



  • A bachelor’s degree in Applied Science (Engineering) in a discipline related to process control or relevant experience 
  • Experience in design aspect of control systems and design document developments
  • Ability to work in a work with old and new control systems
  • Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Experience using Rockwell, Wonderware HMI, Schneider PLC is an asset
  • Computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Suite and Yokogawa are an asset
