Job Summary

 

Galore Creek Mining Corporation is seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator to support field operations at the Galore Creek Project in northwest British Columbia.

 

Reporting to the Health & Safety Supervisor, this role is primarily responsible for supporting all field operation activities with all health and/or safety aspects by GCMC policies and procedures and regulatory requirements. We are looking for an individual who is ready to be a safety champion promoting GCMC’s core value of a safety-focused culture based on courageous safety leadership.

 

This position will be based at the Galore Creek project site on a 15 on/13 off rotational basis, inclusive of travel. This rotation is subject to change as the project requires.

 

The start date for this role is anticipated to be the week of May or early June 2025, and the end date will be approximately October 2025.

 

Overview

 

Galore Creek Mining Corp. currently operates two camps on the project site. One road-accessible camp (98-person capacity) and one helicopter-supported camp (160-person capacity).

 

Located in the territory of the Tahltan Nation in northwestern British Columbia, Galore Creek is one of the world’s largest undeveloped copper-gold-silver deposits. Galore Creek Mining Corporation (GCMC), a partnership between Newmont Corporation (Newmont) and Teck Resources Limited (Teck), is committed to advancing the asset towards a development decision with meaningful input from the Tahltan Nation and BC regulators. Responsibilities:

 

  • Be a courageous safety leader; adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.

  • Understand, embrace, and champion GCMC’s safety culture. Make courageous decisions to stop or defer work if health and safety conditions are deemed unsatisfactory.

  • Provide health & safety support to all departments in the planning and coordination of all activities on site. This includes but is not limited to hazard assessments, inspections, and training requirements.

  • Review all incident notification reports (reported by Site Supervision through our online safety software) for quality and appropriate follow-up. Lead full incident investigations as required.

  • Ensure all personnel on site receive an appropriate health and safety orientation, either through our online training platform or by conducting them in person on-site.

  • Maintain a balance between presence in the field and office responsibilities, recognizing the vital significance of both environments in ensuring a successful health and safety program.

  • Always strive to improve health and safety protocols by applying data insights and widely accepted industry guidelines, seeking to elevate site safety standards.

  • Work with all department leads to identify, pursue, and deliver continuous improvement opportunities as they pertain to health & safety matters.

  • Other duties as required by the Health & Safety Supervisor and Mine Manager or Designate.

Qualifications:

 

  • A technical university degree or diploma (ex. Bachelor of Science or equivalent experience) is a strong asset.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Must be a motivated self-starter, with the ability to work under minimal direction and able to manage several tasks simultaneously.

  • Strong digital literacy and proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and SharePoint are required.

  • Strong organizational skills and a proven track record of completing work promptly are required.

  • Previous experience working in mining, mineral exploration, helicopter-supported environments, and/or with heavy mobile equipment is an asset.

  • Experience with conducting and leading detailed incident investigations, with a focus on resolving contributing factors that lead to the incident, root causes, and corrective actions.

  • Previous experience in health and safety and working in a remote camp setting is preferred.

  • Familiarity with using online safety software such as DATS (Digital Action Tracking System) or similar is a strong asset.

  • Ability to work in remote terrain, uneven surfaces, and all-weather conditions.

  • Hold a valid, non-restricted Class 5 driver's license.

  • Occupational First Aid Level 1 and WHMIS certifications are an asset.

 

Hourly Range: $40 - $80 

 

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
