Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Mine Operator V.

 

Rotation schedule will be 2 weeks on-site with 2 weeks off-site

 

Reports to Mine Shift Supervisor

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain proficiency in operation of 777 haul trucks including receiving and signing off on training in regards to proper operation of haul trucks as well as continued proficiency at the Entry-Level, Level I, Level II Level III and Level IV stages
  • Maintain proficiency in operation of various support equipment such as rock hammer, motor grader, dozers and excavator as determined on crew/operational requirements; projects assigned become increasingly more complex based on additional competencies with equipment
  • Basic understanding of three pieces of Mine Operation’s primary equipment such as production loader, dozer, grader, etc and demonstrates an understanding of the Pit Operation (Geology, Survey, and Engineering) through written examination
  • Assist in more complex and technical projects (such as ditch work, movement around utility lines, steep slopes, on grade, etc) by identifying projects needs and providing increased versatility with proficient operation of a variety of equipment
  • Assist with operation of the V-900 and tractor trailers when requested by the mine department (not a requirement but assists department when Surface Crew is not available)
  • Responsible for completing basic paperwork such as timesheets and walk around inspection forms which include information such as location, material hauled, load count, hours worked and condition of equipment
  • Demonstrate the ability to follow instructions and have the willingness to learn and advance through the Mine Operators progression
  • Communicate effectively with other operators, colleague and supervisor about assigned tasks and ensuring carryover and updates of completed tasks throughout the shift
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of environmental risks and hazards as well as complies with safety policies and procedures (MSHA and Red Dog EMS training) and ensures daily workplace inspections are done in order to accurately identify and correct workplace hazards
  • Ensure compliance with all established policies and standard operating procedures and advises coworkers and visitors of such policies and procedures as required

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Four (4) years prior mining or similar experience 
  • Strong team cooperation is required
  • Perform all tasks with limited direction
  • Work safely and follow instructions
  • Work outdoors with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions 
  • A desire to advance to higher levels in the competency development system by training and becoming proficient at specific tasks and duties in the Mine Operations department
