Mine Technician - Survey

Location: 

Red Dog Mine, AK, US

Reporting to the Chief Engineer - Mine, the Mine Technician, Survey is responsible for surveying (field control, as-builts), volumetrics, GPS troubleshooting.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental policies and procedures
  • Provide production surveying services to direct mining activities to follow plans supplied by the operations and planning groups
  • Responsible for supporting GPS systems on site (drill navigation and dozer guidance)
  • Issue dig permits as required
  • Perform periodic monitoring as required of as-built structures, roads and water levels
  • Perform as-builts of any new installations
  • Coordinate work and communication between planning, blasting, geology and production departments by using maps, log books, radio and face-to-face encounters
  • Assist with construction project surveying as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must have a valid drivers’ license
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience, preferably in an open pit mining environment as a survey and/or mine technician is preferred
  • Must have a working knowledge of computers, survey software, and surveying equipment (MineSight 3-D, AutoCAD, Trimble Business Center) 
  • A working knowledge of GPS and guidance systems (e.g. drill navigation and dozer guidance) would be considered a strong asset
  • Have excellent record keeping skills
  • Have knowledge of calculations, boundary closures, vertical bench loop closures and adjustments, the production of as-builts maps, blast hole maps, and utility as-built maps
  • Have the ability to prepare all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys.
  • Strong organizational skills and an eye for detail
  • Analytically -minded, with strong problem-solving skills
  • Interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
  • Excellent people, project and time management skills
  • Must be proficient in MS Office Suite and Windows environment with intermediate abilities in Excel
  • Able to work with minimal supervision
  • Must be willing to work outdoors with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions
