Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a. Community and Regional Affairs Coordinator. Due to anticipated needs, we are currently recruiting for a career oriented individual to fill this role.

 

Position will be based in Teck Alaska’s Kotzebue Office; work schedule will be Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. This position will require travel to communities within the Northwest Arctic Borough.

 

Reporting to the Manager, Community & Public Relations
 

Responsibilities:

•    Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
•    Promote and ensure a safe work environment and a safety conscious workforce by supporting and following safety initiatives, procedures, and activities
•    Is expected to support and maintain cooperative relationships with Red Dog employees and representatives of NANA, industry, government, public interest groups, and the Northwest Arctic Region at large
•    Acts as point of contact with local and regional governments including the Northwest Arctic Borough, Northwest Arctic Borough School District and local city and tribal governments with respect to Red Dog Operations.
•    Represents the company’s position in various member associations’ committees, task forces and working groups
•    Coordinate outreach in communities, including annual community visits, presentations, meetings and other events as needed. Travel to communities will be required
•    Support the development and participate in the delivery of presentations and orientations to external stakeholders
•    Represent the company during community projects and at public, social, and business gatherings when needed and acts as a liaison between the company and the communities of Northwest Alaska
•    Collaborate and support Red Dog’s participation in the corporate social responsibility and sustainability programs
•    Support and participate in regional community engagement activities to enhance regional relationships and awareness of Red Dog Operations
•    Expected to support and provide accurate and timely reports on activities, issues and outcomes to company decision makers
•    Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

•    Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or related discipline. College degree may be waived if equivalent, extensive related experience can be demonstrated in sustainable community development and community relations
•    Five (5) years’ experience in direct community relations and engagement experience and/or community development experience with knowledge of relevant approaches and methodologies
•    Demonstrated planning, organizing and program design experience and associated program and management skills
•    Excellent communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills and experience of working co-operatively with a broad range of community stakeholders
•    Understanding of and experience in the extractives industry and projects, especially mining
•    Computer skills, with intermediate knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint, applications
•    High level of integrity, respect and solutions-focused with a commitment to respectful and inclusive community engagement
•    A team player and leader who brings creativity, enthusiasm and a strategic outlook
•    Ability to handle difficult and challenging assignments and situations
•    Contribute to establishing the strategic sustainability and community relations direction of the company by participating in the Community and Public Relations strategic and business planning process
•    Exemplify the company’s core values of safety, integrity, excellence, discipline, commitment, teamwork, innovation and respect
