Senior Geotechnical Engineer
Reporting to the Senior Engineering Supervisor, Geotechnical, the Intermediate to Senior Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for supporting the geotechnical aspects of mine planning and design through to execution, including pit expansions, slope monitoring, geotechnical investigation programs and design compliance.
To be successful, we require someone with a minimum of five years Geotechnical Engineering experience, with preference given to candidates with existing experience working for an active mine site, or consulting for open-pit operations. Additionally, the candidate will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, who can develop and communicate practical recommendations to mine planners and operations personnel.
We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal skills and proven experience in overseeing and coordinating multiple internal resources and external contractors in projects. This role requires a motivated self-starter, who can multi-task effectively and work collaboratively with others in a technical team-based environment. Demonstrated experience with project management and training in Geotechnical Engineering and mine planning will be considered an asset.

Responsibilities:
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Develop and maintain relationships with both technical and operational staff
- Coordinate geotechnical field programs and support geotechnical analyses and designs implementing the Life of Mine plan
- Conduct risk-based assessments of geotechnical areas on site, and implement mitigation activities
- Coordinate and review work by external geotechnical consultants to ensure it is fit for purpose and meets specifications, standards, and codes
- Perform regular geotechnical inspections of the active and dormant mining areas, report on the inspections, and provide recommendations
- Manage and compile geotechnical data, and complete interpretations and reviews
- Perform stability analyses for rock slopes, waste dumps, and soil stockpiles
- Communicate geotechnical risks and solutions in a safety sensitive, dynamic environment
- Play an active role in Teck’s geotechnical community of practice through ongoing collaboration with geotechnical personnel at other Teck operations and corporate engineering group
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geological or Geotechnical Engineering
- Registered, or eligible to register, with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) as a P. Eng.
- Five (5) to ten (10) years mining industry experience
- Geotechnical experience in an open pit environment is an asset
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite® and relevant geotechnical software, such as GeoExplorer, Vulcan, AutoCAD, Slide, Dips, Swedge, RocFall, and Phase2/RS2 an asset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Valid driver’s license
