Reporting to the Superintendent, Geotechnical, the Senior Tailings Engineer – Mine Life Extension (MLE) will support tailings-focused project and construction scopes to advance the Highland Valley Copper (HVC) MLE Project.


In this position, you will have the chance to contribute to a variety of engineering design management initiatives and projects within a world-class operation. You will find ample opportunities to expand your knowledge and apply your expertise in tailings and project management across various Teck mine sites, while also sharing your insights through participation in periodic Tailings Review Boards. This role will involve a blend of fieldwork and office-based tasks, offering a dynamic and diverse work environment.




  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Lead tailings related scope of works involved in the HVC MLE project and provide guidance and input to 3rd party engineering firms preparing detailed designs and plans
  • Contribute to planning and construction activities for current HVC tailings facilities.
  • Apply expertise with regard to tailings and water-retaining structures and liaison between project team and HVC site operations
  • Coordinate and review work by external geotechnical consultants
  • Coordinate internal reviews and engage with internal Teck senior expertise in a proactive manner
  • Participate in dialogue with Communities of Interest (regulators, Indigenous peoples, communities, etc.) with respect to risk evaluations, emergency preparedness and responses, and risk mitigation projects as required
  • Lead all aspects of short- and long-term projects related to geotechnical structures, including supervision of consultants and contractors
  • Assist with the implementation of Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) objectives for all tailings facilities, and ensure commitments are maintained




  • At least 8 years of relevant and dynamic Geotechnical, Civil or Mining Engineering experience, including a recent role at an operating mine with responsibilities for tailings and water retaining structures
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical, Geological, Civil, Environmental, or Mining Engineering, preferably with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC)
  • A results-oriented individual with outstanding organizational, research, planning, writing and communication skills
  • Keen to take initiative, act proactively to anticipate needs, and work independently and in a team environment. Ability to prioritize and handle time effectively
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Office®, AutoCAD and GIS software
  • A valid driver’s licence
  • Knowledge of BC’s Health, Safety and Reclamation Code is an asset

Salary Range: $117,000 - $145,000


The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
