We are currently seeking an individual in the role of: Senior Coordinator, Indigenous Relations


The Senior Coordinator will be responsible for leading the implementation of Teck Highland Valley Copper's (THVCP) multiple participation agreements with local Indigenous organizations. Experience in business development, recruitment, procurement, education and training would be an asset. The Senior Coordinator will also be responsible for supporting the implementation of community engagement and investment strategies that align with Teck’s Health, Environment, Safety and Community Management Standards and commitments to external initiatives.




  • Be a Courageous Safety Leader by adhering to safety and environmental rules and procedures;
  • Demonstrate courageous leadership by promoting a safe work environment, ensuring compliance with Teck Health, Safety and Environmental Programs and the BC Mines Act;
  • Coordinate and lead the implementation of participation agreements;
  • Maintain an effective register and monitor compliance of obligations and key performance indicators for participation agreements;
  • Development and management of annual plans and annual reports;
  • Coordinate and manage internal and external reporting of obligations and commitments;
  • Coordinate and participate in the execution of community and employee engagement events, tours and/or functions;
  • Participate and monitor site-level data on social performance and risk management, such as baselines and impact assessments, risk registers, engagement tracking, and management plans;
  • Contribute to the implementation of community investment program, consistent with Teck’s Corporate policy, site realities, and community priorities;
  • Support continuous improvements to the community relations function at THVP;
  • Facilitate Highland Valley Copper’s overall relationship with local Indigenous communities.



  • Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, social sciences, sustainable community development, or other related fields; equivalent work experience in community development, international development, social work, sustainability, public health, participatory research, and/or economic development may be considered;
  • At least 5 years of direct experience in rural communities with an emphasis on working with Indigenous peoples and a focus on community engagement, and/or community development;
  • Knowledge of relevant approaches and methodologies with a detailed understanding of social and community issues;
  • Excellent written, communication, and interpersonal skills, including active listening, public speaking, and dialogue;
  • Proven ability to identify and manage social risks;
  • Demonstrated planning, organizing, meeting facilitation and program design experience;        
  • Demonstrated project management skills including budgeting, scheduling and resource management;
  • Demonstrated ability in the following areas:
    • Building  and maintaining relationships in culturally diverse settings;
    • Facilitating change;
    • Strategic and tactical planning;
    • Conflict management and conflict resolution;
  • High degree of initiative, self-motivation, accountability, and independent judgment;
  • Focus on integrity, respect and solutions;
  • Commitment to respectful, inclusive and sustainable community development;
  • Experience and understanding of the mining industry is an asset;
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license (minimum class 7N) or equivalent.


Highland Valley Copper is one of Canada’s largest base metal copper-moly mines and is owned and operated by Teck Resources. The Highland Valley is a very attractive location offering a wide variety of recreational opportunities such as hiking, skiing, fishing and golf. The mine site is a 50 minute drive from Kamloops, BC which provides all of the comforts of city living. The mine site is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
