Reporting to the Superintendent, Mine Operations, the Operations Engineer (known at Teck as Innovation and Value Delivery Lead, Mine Operations) is responsible for providing performance and project management support to the Mine Operations Department. This will include leading and sustaining RACE21™ projects for the Mine Operations department, implementing mining best practices, and evaluating current processes and key performance indicators.

 

To be successful, we are looking for a self-motivated individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who can apply strong leadership abilities to directly coach, mentor, and manage performances; someone with excellent project management and coordination skills who can indirectly influence outcomes across operating and engineering departments. This role requires sophisticated analytical and facilitating skills, as well as the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Advanced aptitude in change management and a driven desire for continuous improvement are vital in this position.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Provide overall continuous improvement support to the Operations department including facilitating project implementation, management of change, and ensuring initiatives are ‘locked-in’
  • Analyze and critique performance for pit operations and dispatch personnel
  • Identify and help to execute mining best practices across operations crews to optimize productivity
  • Promote accurate and consistent communication between operators, pit supervisors, and maintenance
  • Analyze Mine Operations shift-by-shift performance to identify best practices and implement improvement opportunities
  • Analyze interfaces between Mine Operations and other departments to ensure that planning is effective and departures from plans are effectively addressed

 

Qualifications:

  • BSc. of Engineering or equivalent with Mining, Civil, Geotechnical specialization, or relevant field
  • Minimum seven years of demonstrated experience in the mining industry, with preference given to previous operational experience
  • Registeration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in BC, or eligibility for registration is required 
  • Good understanding of the function of a mine site and the inherent interrelationships involved
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Excellent data entry and reporting skills, including the ability to understand and improve data integrity
